  • Poland and Sweden are on their way as the shortest prices with bookmakers
  • Betting sites give record-holders Ireland only 20% chance of appearing in the final bill
  • Ireland have one of the Worst records in the Competition in the last 10 years

By the time we get to this semi-final for Eurovision, we will already know the first 10 finalists from the 17 taking part in the first round.

In the second semi-final we have 18 countries fighting for ten places, with Poland and Sweden top of the betting today, and Ireland, the country that has won the competition more often than any other languishing as the outsiders with bookmakers to get to the final 4 days later.

According to the betting odds only North Macedonia has a slimmer chance than 7-time winners Ireland of reaching the final. Not Surprising, however, as they have qualified only once (2018) since 2013

What has happened to Ireland at Eurovision?

Ireland was to the Eurovision song contest in the 1990s, what Stephen Hendry was to snooker; totally dominant.

They achieved 4 wins, 2 runner-up spots and finished in the top 10 on 8 occasions, but they failed to qualify in 2008 and 2009, and since then things have not gotten better with only one appearance at the final show in the last 8 years.

Worse still, in the last 2 semi-finals they have appeared they have finished last.

They are the outsiders with betting sites this week to reach the final in 2022, and will be at least hoping to avoid a third consecutive last-place semi-final finish, at best, to try to avoid an 8th year in 9 of not reaching the final.

Despite being the country with the best Eurovision Song Contest record and total domination during the 90's, they have one of the worst records in the last 10 years
