Rory McIlroy has moved into 12/1 to win the Sports Personality of the Year award

There's been a change in the betting market for this year's Sports Personality of the Year award as golfer Rory McIlroy moves into 12/1 after Europe defeated America in the Ryder Cup this past weekend.

Bookmakers have therefore slashed McIlroy's odds to win the award after his magnificent performance in Italy saw him win four of his five matches for a career-best tally at the event.

McIlroy has now moved in the market from 50/1 at the start of the weekend to now 12/1 with the betting odds putting him as the joint fourth favourite to win the SPOTY award alongside Ben Stokes.

There are still two months left of the sporting calendar and with the Rugby World Cup underway and Cricket World Cup kicking off there could still be big market moves to be had for the award.

Stuart Broad remains top of the betting market at 2/1 following his retirement from cricket

Stuart Broad is still the clear favourite to win the Sports Personality of the Year award after he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket during the final Ashes test of the summer earlier this year.

Broad's retirement instantly saw bookmakers slash his odds to win the Sports Personality of the Year award by installing him as the favourite and he's not left that spot in the market ever since.

Jockey Frankie Dettori is also set to retire later this year and his odds have also seen him towards the top of the market throughout this year but Broad has now tried to beat him on the final straight.
