The Curragh Course Guide

The Curragh is the most important racecourse in Ireland for thoroughbred racing. It has recently undergone an exciting redevelopment with facilities to match anything worldwide.

Highlights: Home of the Irish 1,000 & 2,000 Guineas, along with the Irish Derby, Irish Oaks & Irish St. Leger. The Irish Classics are five of the eleven Group 1 races staged at the Curragh throughout their season from May through to November.

The other Group 1 races are the Tattersalls Gold Cup, Irish Pretty Polly Stakes, Phoenix Stakes, Moyglare Stud Stakes, Flying Five Stakes and National Stakes.

Also featured at the Curragh racecourse are some big handicaps with the Irish Lincoln, Irish Cesarewitch and the Irish Cambridgeshire.

Also noteworthy is the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes, which is run at the Irish Guineas Festival, as is the Emerald Mile Handicap, a valuable premier handicap run over a mile.

Plan your day’s racing or betting by checking out their website. You’ll get all the information you need for all the big race days and festivals taking place at The Curragh.

Having access to the best betting odds when betting at The Curragh can mean the difference between profit and loss.

Curragh Draw Bias

✅ With an LSP of +79.25, the most successful stall at Curragh is stall 5 when backing runners over a trip of 6f over the last five years.

❌ With an LSP of -139.80, the most unsuccessful stall at Curragh is stall 10 when backing runners over a trip of 6f over the last five years.

Here we have the draw bias for Curragh taken into consideration in races with ten or more runners. We will break down the figures by race trips. Draws can be much more important in shorter trips, where runners do not have time to find their position during the race, meaning the draw is probably more important than in races over longer distances.

  • Sprints (5f to 7½f)
  • Mile (1m to 1m1½f)
  • Middle Distance (1m2f to 1m5½f)

The following table shows a breakdown of a group of trips and shows how each position of the draw does, for example, in a twelve-runner race would be Low (Stalls 1-4), Mid (Stalls 5-8) and High (Stalls 9-12). The positions will always be the lowest stall number to the highest.

Curragh Jockey and Trainer Combinations

Who are the best flat jockeys and trainers to bet on at Curragh?

A P O'Brien is the leading trainer here at Curragh with one hundred sixty-four winners, but you would have recorded a loss if you backed all of their runners, whilst following J A Stack would have returned the most winners (sixteen) from a profitable trainer. If you are more of an eachway player, then you may want to know which trainer is best to follow at Curragh, and that would be Charles O'Brien, who shows the best eachway LSP, which is +47.41, thanks to their twenty placings (eight winners). With an LSP of -216.29 at Curragh, Mrs John Harrington heads the list for worst trainers at this course, which is a result of forty-three winners from five hundred fifty-seven runners, which is a strike rate of 8%.

Whilst Ryan Moore is the most successful jockey at Curragh with a total of one hundred thirteen winners, if you backed all of their rides, you would be showing a loss. L F Roche is the most successful jockey at Curragh for those who show a profit if backing all their rides, thanks to a total of sixteen winners and an LSP of +27.87. If you are looking for a jockey to follow in the eachway market, then it is H J Horgan who leads the way at Curragh. They have had a total of six placings, which includes two winners for an eachway LSP of +60.72. The jockey with the worst record at Curragh based on LSP is Ben M Coen, who has only an 8% strike rate with thirty-six winners from four hundred seventy-one rides, which have returned an LSP of -230.42.
