Salman Rushdie is the early favourite to win the 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature

Sir Salman Rushdie is the early betting favourite to win the 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature with his latest book set to be released in 2023.

Victory City is expected to be one of the big releases of the year with Salman Rushdie's latest novel officially coming out on February 7th.

Bookies make him 4/1 to win the award in 2023 with Betway's odds giving him a 20% chance of doing so.

2023 Nobel Prize for Literature Winner
Odds Probability
Salman Rushdie 4/1 20%
Haruki Murakami 5/1 16.7%
Margaret Atwood 8/1 11.1%
Anne Carson 9/1 10%
Lyudmila Ulitskaya 10/1 9.1%

Rushdie was the subject of Nobel campaigns to try and give him the award last year after he was attacked as he was about to give a public lecture in New York back in August.

The award was given to Arnie Ernaux instead but it would be no surprise if instead Rushdie was to win it this year with his novel being released.

Sir Salman Rushdie is the early favourite in the betting for the 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature and the campaigns to let him win last year may go into this. Rushdie was victim of an attack in August as he was about to give a public lecture in New York.

Haruki Murakami the second favourite in the betting at 5/1

Bookmakers have Haruki Murakami as the second favourite in the betting market for the 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Murakami has long been linked with winning the Nobel Prize and at one point was 10/1 second favourite in 2021 for the award.

This time around though he is the 5/1 second favourite and 2023 could finally be the year that he wins it.

Critics in the past have said though that the lack of political statements present in his work could be the main reason why he wouldn't.

When is the 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature award show?

The 2023 Nobel Prize for Literature will be announced by the Swedish Academy in Stockholm, Sweden.

The prize is set to be awarded on 10th December 2023, with the announcement of the winner usually made in October.

The winner of the prize will make a Nobel lecture at the awards show where they speak about their work.
