Former footballer turned coach Wade Elliott is 6/1 favourite to take over at Cheltenham Town
Cheltenham Town are looking for a new manager after the departure of Michael Duff earlier this week.
Wade Elliott is the bookmakers favourite to take over at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium and it would make perfect sense as he is already a member of the coaching staff there.
Elliott is a highly respected figure in the Cheltenham changing rooms and at 6/1 he could well be the man to take over the vacant managerial position.
Next Cheltenham Town Manager | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Wade Elliott | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Michael Appleton | 7/1 | 12.5% |
Darren Ferguson | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Gary Caldwell | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Luke Tisdale | 12/1 | 7.7% |
Michael Appleton is a popular experienced manager who is currently without a job after leaving Lincoln City last month.
Appleton is just behind Elliott in the betting market, showing that he could well have a decent chance of taking over at the Robins.
The recruitment process is already well underway, with reports stating that a new manager is expected to be announced within a fortnight.
Previous manager Michael Duff left earlier this week to take over at Barnsley
Michael Duff was Cheltenham's previous manager and he left the club earlier this week to take over at Barnsley.
Duff was one of the most successful manager's that Town have had in recent years, with his promotion to League One helping that case.
The last season spent in League One, without any sort of relegation battle, shows just how well Duff did with such a small budget.
With the 17th highest budget in League Two, their promotion to the division was already a massive achievement.
But their budget in League One, around the second worst in the league, showed the strength of Duff and his squad.
Early betting tips are going up from experts on the OLBG site for League One, with promotion markets already having tips on them.
Cheltenham are 50/1 outsiders to win League One next season
With one of the lowest budgets in the division, Cheltenham Town aren't expected to be fighting for promotion next season.
Finishing 15th in their first season back in League One in 13 years last year was a successful campaign and more of the same is expected next season.
Cheltenham are 5/2 to be relegated from League One in the new season which could well happen if the new manager comes in and struggles.
What's evident though is whoever comes in has a tough task ahead of them if they will still be on a tight budget.
