Former favourite Luke Littler drifts behind Hodgkinson to win SPOTY

17-year-old Darts sensation Luke Littler was instantly made favourite for the Sports Personality of the Year award at the start of 2024 after his stunning debut Darts World Championship tournament saw him reach the final.

Despite losing to Luke Humphries at Ally Pally, Littler has pushed on further and winning the Premier League Darts tournament earlier this year saw him sit at the shortest price he's been yet.

Littler's rise to the top saw him become a household name, with his appearance on the Jonathan Ross Show alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Liam Gallagher boosting his popularity even more.

Olympics likely to play a massive part in the SPOTY voting this year

Sports Personality of the Year during an Olympic year tends to see the nominees dominated by sport stars that have appeared at the event and it's likely to be the same here.

2021's SPOTY was won by Emma Raducanu due to her US Open success but Tom Daley and Adam Peaty followed in second and third for their performances at the Tokyo Olympics.

Paralympics takes place later this month too and it could even be that we see a big star from that event step forward as a contender for Hodgkinson in the betting market.
