2027 Women's Premier League
The Women's Premier League is a cricket tournament known in short as the WPL, which was created in 2022 to replace the Women's T20 Challenge and is the women's equivalent of the Indian Premier League.
The league was set up to have its inaugural season in 2023, with five teams competing, who have now taken part in all of the first four tournaments.
In 2023, Mumbai & Navi Mumbai were used as locations; in 2024, it was Bengaluru & Delhi. This was expanded in 2025 with four venues being used, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Mumbai and Vadodara.
For the 2026 season, it was back down to two venues with the DY Patil Stadium (Navi Mumbai) and the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium (Vadodara) being used. The 2027 venues are yet to be announced.
WPL Teams
- Delhi Capitals
- Gujarat Giants
- Mumbai Indians
- Royal Challengers Bengaluru
- UP Warriorz
WPL Format
The league has been set up to mirror the IPL, except for the number of teams; five teams play against each other in a double round-robin format, which means each team plays eight matches.
The team which finished top during the league stage advances straight to the final, whilst the teams in second and third compete in an elimination match to see which other team heads to the final.
Hopefully, the tournament will be expanded in the near future with more franchises, resulting in a longer tournament and more matches.
