There are instances when these odds might not be readily available for certain clubs. This could be because the position has only recently been filled, the club is currently performing exceptionally well, or the club has a strong history of standing by its manager through thick and thin.

Who Will Be The Next St Johnstone Manager?

Here are a few candidates that could be in a position to take up the role of the next St Johnstone manager,  these are drawn from previous considerations and appearances in the betting market prior to the last hire.

Ian Murray

Since his first appointment at Dumbarton in 2012, 43-year-old Murray has managed four Scottish clubs, including spells at St Mirren, Airdrie, and Raith Rovers.

During his time at the last two, he saw his teams just miss out on promotion.

Paul Sherrin

Sherrin is assistant manager to Derek Mcinnes at Kilmarnock, a position he took up in June 2023.

He has previously been the boss at Arbroath, where he guided the club to the Third Division Championship trophy, and Falkirk, which proved  a less successful appointment.

Jody Morris

Having played over 100 games for Saints, it was fairly obvious that his name would feature in the bookie's next St Johnstone manager betting list.

However, Morris has only managed one club previously (Swindon Town), and that did not start or end well (PL18. W4, D4, L10).

Rhys McCabe

Only 32, McCabe is still turning out for Airdrieonians, where he is player-manager. In his first season, he was at the helm when the club won promotion to the Championship.

Scott Brown

Image: skysportsBrown was installed as the 5/2 favourite in the St Johnstone next manager betting market prior to Craig Levein being appointed in November 2023. The former Celtic and Scotland  midfielder was sacked as manager of English League One club Fleetwood Town in September 2023. In January 2024 he took over at Ayr United.

David Martindale

It was reported that Livingston coach David Martindale was approached by St Johnstone when Steve Maclean was sacked in October 2023. He was quoted in the betting at around 7/2, but Martindale, who has performed such a terrific job with Livi, stayed put.

Tommy Wright

Mr St Johnstone is Tommy Wright, who spent seven years as a manager and nine years in total but quit when deciding he needed a break. The fans who worry that the Saint's best days are behind them would get an immediate boost if Wright returned. In August 2023 Wright was appointed Northern Ireland Under 21 manager.

Jim McIntyre

As a manager, Jim McIntyre won the Scottish First Division in 2011 with Dunfermline Athletic and the Scottish League Cup in 2016 at Ross County. Most recently, he was at Cove Rangers (2022 -2023) but was sacked after just 25 games on the back of a 6-1 defeat by ICT. In December 2023 he was appointed manager of  League one side Arbroath.

Neil Lennon

No Scottish manager betting list would be complete without Neil Lennon. The former Hibs and Celtic manager is currently without a club, having been sacked by Cypriot club Omonia in October 2022 and Rapid Bucharest in 2024.

6th November 2023

Taking the reins at St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership on 6th November, the former Hearts and Scotland boss Craig Levein put an end to his four-year managerial hiatus. His return was marked by signing a contract that stretches until 2026, following the departure of the previous manager, Steve McLean. He holds an optimistic view of success as not only elevating but also maintaining St Johnstone's position away from the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.

29th October 2023

Steve McLean is relieved of his duties after just 190 days in the job recording only a 14% win rate which is now the worst record for any manager of the club

16th April 2023

McDiarmid Park legend Calum Davidson has left St Johnstone by mutual agreement after the club dropped into 9th position in the SPL. The Saints had only won twice in 2023 and the manager was under increasing pressure.
