Bookmakers now make Ian Murray the 3/1 favourite to be the next St Johnstone manager

Betting markets are now open on who will be the next St Johnstone Manager with former Raith Rovers boss Ian Murray the early favourite to take over at McDiarmid Park next.

St Johnstone are looking for a new manager after they sacked Craig Levein on Monday after a dismal start to the season sees them sat in 10th place in the Scottish Premiership.

UK Betting Sites have installed Murray as the favourite to take over the Saints just over a month after he was dismissed as Raith Rovers manager.

Murray's sacking just two months after he got Rovers promoted came as a shock and it would be no surprise to see him back into management here.

Craig Levein was sacked by the Saints after poor start to the season

Following a run of 1 win and 4 defeats to kick off the campaign for St Johnstone, the club decided to relieve Craig Levein of his duties on Monday.

Levein took over the Saints last November and kept them up in the relegation battle last season but this season has seen the club start off poorly.

The 2-0 away defeat to Hibernian on Saturday was the final nail in the coffin of Levein’s tenure in what was the club’s fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

"The football club would like to place on record its thanks to Craig for all of his efforts during his time at McDiarmid Park,” the club said.
