Horse Racing Trainers To Follow In March

Horse Racing Trainers To Follow In March

March Trainers

We roll on to March, the excitement of Cheltenham and the start of the flat season.  February wasn't the best but we still have a healthy + £84.00 LSP and a strike rate of around 22%.

It was this time last year when things started to get a bit messy with racing cancelled not long after Cheltenham due to Covid so I've decided not to rely on last years figures too much in terms of new trainers, we had plenty of trainers who made a profit last March and they were only in the blog due to their previous March exploits.

NH (GB)

WILLIE MULLINS (ALL)

Any followers of racing will know you can virtually back this guy blind and make a profit at Cheltenham, he looks to have a really strong team this year and although he has plenty of favs we will probably need one of his outsiders to win to show a profit due to the number of runners.

  • 2015     9/56     16%     +£2.09
  • 2016     7/62     11%     (£42.86)
  • 2017     6/46     13%     +£10.63
  • 2018     7/62     11%     +£12.40
  • 2019     4/59       7%     +£18.00
  • 2010     7/56     13%      (£  5.67)

He made a loss on SP figures last year but we showed a +£8.36 profit as we backed his winners at (17.50 exchange, 16's 7's 6's 9/2 10/3 and 5/2).  In 2019 we made +£37.50 LSP the SP figures were +£18.00, you need to bet his horses early.

PAUL NICHOLLS (CHASERS)

Back from last month and last year where he gave us some nice winners.

  • 2015     5/29     17%     +£ 4.48
  • 2016     4/32     13%     +£10.75
  • 2017     9/37     24%     +£25.22
  • 2018     4/28     14%     +£13.57
  • 2019     6/32     19%     +£ 0.23
  • 2020     2/14     14%     +£ 0.00

His strike rate is a bit of a worry but he keeps giving us a profit, +£4.80 last year after we got a nice early price on Politologue even with the R4.  He was probably effected by the halt to racing more than others as he doesn't target Cheltenham as much these days.

NICKY RICHARDS (ALL)

Greystoke trainer and a blog favorite, won't have many Cheltenham runners but one to watch elsewhere.

  • 2017     7/26     27%    +£ 3.28
  • 2018     6/23     26%    +£ 5.25
  • 2019     6/25     24%    +£18.25
  • 2020     7/17     41%     +£17.93

He had 6 winners and 2 seconds from his first 8 runners last March so whatever you do don't miss his runners this week.

JENNIE CANDLISH (ALL)

Under rated Staffordshire trainer who has smashed it in the past two seasons for us.

  • 2016     5/17     29%     (£0.31)
  • 2017     5/14     36%    +£14.50
  • 2018     4/15     27%    +£ 3.63
  • 2019     4/21     19%    +£16.38
  • 2020     3/16     19%      (£ 1.25)

Last year our figures were +£7.91 and comes into the month with form figures of 1215221.

HENRY OLIVER (HURDLERS)

Small profit last year after a really good 2019.

  • 2015     2/7     29%     +£9.00
  • 2016     2/18   11%      (£3.78)
  • 2017     3/13   23%     +£5.50
  • 2018     3/6     50%     +£7.18
  • 2019     4/18   22%     +£8.45
  • 2020     1/8     13%      +£1.00

Another one who may have suffered with the curtailed month.

GB (AW)

KARL BURKE (ALL)

North Yorkshire trainer, back for a third year after profits in each of the past two.

  • 2017     5/18    28%    +£10.75
  • 2018     5/23    22%    +£31.96
  • 2019     3/18    17%    +£ 4.50
  • 2020     2/11    18%     +£ 5.50

He's had a fantastic February (8/31 - 26% - +£33.33), lets hope he's saved some for this month.

SIMON CRISFORD (ALL)

Newmarket trainer, another back for a third year after nice profits in the last two.

  • 2016     2/7     29%     +£5.50
  • 2017     1/2     50%     +£6.00
  • 2018     3/10   30%     +£5.11
  • 2019     2/3     67%     +£9.50
  • 2020     2/4     50%      +£4.50

We beat the SP profit in each of the past two years, a few more runners would be nice.

DAVID BARRON (ALL)

Last up is an old blog favorite who hasn't appeared for a while, this North Yorks trainer can land a gamble and has some nice March figures.

  • 2016     5/15     33%     +£5.35
  • 2017     5/36     14%     (£14.25)
  • 2018     4/16     25%     +£2.71
  • 2019     2/8       25%     +£12.57
  • 2020     1/2       50%     +£  5.00

His last two runners were beaten a hd and 1L at 9's and 4's so comes into the month in reasonable form

As always any comments, questions or observations leave below, I'll keep an eye on the other trainers we followed last season to see if they make a profit, the loss of the last two weeks of March last year could have made a lot of difference.

Have a good Cheltenham, good luck.
