5:25 York Tips

Drops a pound and eased in grade, and has a jockey upgrade in this amateur's event. This is the one they all have to beat, dropping back in trip.

Looks primed for a big run under amateur conditions. Looked impressive at Ripon, and well treated, despite a 4lb rise. With a strong rider on board and cheekpieces back on, he ticks a lot of boxes. Good each way value.

Glistening Nights won off 73 at Redcar in September. He also won twice this time last year. The downside is that his York form is not great, but he is tempting off today's mark of 71.

Miss Brodie Hampson and Archie Watson trained Alazwar have clicked well together with winning last time out and second before. This has gone up three pounds for winning at Newbury but is well in on past high winning marks. A big run could be on once again with the bay gelding in fine fettle.

Titian won off 79 at Ripon at the end of May last year. He failed to follow that up this year but wasn't beaten far and looks on a handy mark. He may run into a place off 77.

Alazwar should close for the husband and wife combination, but I've convinced myself to side with I Still Have Faith at a price. Didn't get away well (losing several lengths) from the stalls when seen 15 days ago for today's jock, Paul Hainey, but did extremely well to finish a closing 6th of 8, only beaten just over 2 lengths. The extra 2 furlongs here look like a wise move, and he looks very interesting at a nice price.

This is a race for Amateur Jockeys so it's probably a race for small stakes only, anything could happen, anything can win. Show Biz Kid has some good form in some good races against good opposition, this race wouldn't be much tougher than those past races. He has one of the better Amateur Jockeys in the saddle so should be given a chance by this jockey. Drawn quite well, trip and ground conditions looking ideal.

Bass Player is a 6-year-old gelding trained by Kevin Frost and ridden by 5lb apprentice Lauren Frost. He is a three-time winner but just 1/18 wins on turf. He won two races at Wolverhampton 5 and 6 races back under Sam James and Rossa Ryan, posting RPR of 76-79. He runs today off 64 with Miss Lauren Frost claiming 5lb, so he looks fairly treated, particularly on the back of a 2.75l defeat on his last start at Wetherby on the 19th of June. The fact he is turned out so quickly suggests his well-being, and at 40-1 with 5 places on offer, a small each-way investment is warranted given Kevin Frost has been among the winners of late, landing 4 in recent weeks.

Poet's Dawn is a seasoned campaigner with multiple wins at this level, proven on similar ground, and continues to give his all with admirable consistency and heart.
