I think this race has changed in recent years, and those coming in without a prep run have generally struggled to lay a glove or been far too keen. Look at Auguste Rodin and City Of Troy. Only Coroebus won off a break in the last four runnings, and in reality, Native Trail should've won that renewal. Not many have had a prep in this field, but Field Of Gold couldn't have been more impressive in his, bolting up over C&D last month. Soft ground and travel were both excuses for his only disappointment at Longchamp last autumn, where he still finished 4th in a Group 1 juvenile, and he's 2 from 2 at the track, so clearly handles the undulations. Sets the standard, and although he's not a fancy price, I can't see him beaten.

Ruling Court has progressed well with a solid strike rate of 66.7% and boasts a perfect record over this distance. He handles the going well and wears a tongue strap to positive effect, having won with it previously. William Buick's strong partnership with the colt and trainer Charlie Appleby's sharp form lend further appeal. Though untested at the course, his performances suggest untapped potential at this level, making him a strong contender.

Plenty of unexposed nice types in the 2000 Guineas. It's tricky to know which have progressed over the winter. Aidan O’Brien normally has a good crop of 3-year-old runners. The selection, rated a big 118, is the choice of jockey Ryan Moore and is a decent price.

A model of consistency with 4 wins from 5 starts, Shadow Of Light brings elite course form (2-for-2 here) and thrives on this going (66.7% strike rate). Trained by the formidable Charlie Appleby and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, he’s tactically versatile and proven in Class 1 company. His ability to handle pressure and deliver under top conditions makes him the standout pick.

Runner-up and beaten 3.5 lengths in the Craven over course and distance behind the re-opposing winner, Field Of Gold, last month. It is a big ask to reverse that form on the evidence of that race but he won the Juddmonte over course and distance in September of last year and looks a tempting price for place potential.
