Who are the in form golfers right now?
Delving into recent results of golf tournaments allows us to quickly build a portfolio of in-form golfers right now to consider when placing our golf bets. In form golfers heading into a tournament on the back of a string of good performances and results are a solid starting point for golf bettors when looking to compile a shortlist of potential winning golf picks.
- Form - A tournament win or even multiple top-10 finishes in the last few months shows the golfer's game is in a good place right now.
- Mentality - Winning and consistently playing well produces a confident mindset enhancing the chances of more success.
- Good Preparation - The above two factors in a golfer mean they are far less likely to tinker with their swing or putting, try a set of new clubs or even change their coach before the next tournament, any of which can lead to uncertainty for punters looking to place a bet. Tinkering with one's game tends to be a result of poor form and performance over a period of time.
The table below lists the golfers who are currently showing the best form in terms of a tournament win or at least two top-six finishes in their last five starts (correct as of 10th December 2024):

There are pitfalls to consider before blindly backing golfers in form, for example:
- Value Odds - A player in a rich vein of form will most likely have odds priced accordingly heading into their next tournament, are they a fair reflection of the player's chance in their next event?
- Other Influences - It pays to keep up to speed with any news that may impact performance since their last tournament, health, fitness, off-course issues etc.
- Previous Course Form - A player may be in the best form of their career but if their game just doesn't suit a particular course then will it be any different this year?
Previous Course History In Golf
Like with most sports betting there are many aspects to ponder and evaluate when it comes to placing a golf bet, a player's previous course history is one of those and an area we will delve into more detail in this section.
The term 'horses for courses' springs to mind and it's the same to an extent when it comes to a golfer excelling on particular courses regardless of their current form.
Is Good Previous Course Form Coincidental?
More than likely it is not coincidental as a particular course setup may suit a player's strengths thus being a good 'course fit'. There may be other courses with a similar layout demanding the same game strategy which may also see a golfer perform consistently.
Here are a few reasons why a player may produce good results at a particular course and others with a similar layout and setup.
- "Easy Tracks" - Courses with wide fairways and less than penal rough suits players who hit the ball the furthest off the tee, distance over accuracy is the name of the game.
- Driving Accuracy - The reverse of the above point, courses which favour accuracy off the tee favour players who figure highly in the driving accuracy percentages.
- Putting Greens - There are two types of grass (Bermuda or Bentgrass) commonly used on putting greens, a player may favour one over the other. Bentgrass is mainly seen on Northern courses in the States as opposed to the warm climate suited to Bermuda greens in the South.
Over a period of time, a golfer's previous course form may of course evolve for the better or worse, this again can be down to mitigating factors like general level of form, deterioration or improvement in one's game, focusing on accuracy rather than distance off the tee etc.
The Masters tournament is a good example where a player's record and previous course form can be analysed from a reliable dataset as the tournament is always held at Augusta National. Does a player always finish in the top ten, absolutely not but analysis will highlight those who consistently play well at the Masters as opposed to others who may struggle despite performing at a high level generally on the tour.
Tournaments occasionally have a change of venue which is worth noting as the previous "tournament" form can obviously give a different slant to the previous "course" form.
We will take a look at upcoming tournaments in the calendar and provide a list of players who may go well again having recorded a win or multiple top-six finishes at the event in the last five years.

Ockie Strydom (n/a) | 1 | 0 |

Who is the best golfer in the world?
The 'best' golfer in the world may be a question up for debate amongst golf punters and fans, many will have their own opinions on who or what is defined as the 'best' be it wins regularly when placing golf bets on them or could be an opinion formed by admiring a player's pure golfing ability to perform at the highest level in golf tournaments like the Open Championship. The question of who is the 'best' also implies seeking a definitive answer in the present (as of now) rather than who is the 'greatest' golfer which opens another question referring to 'ever or all-time greatest'.
The Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) is an example of a recognised system designed to rate the performance levels of professional male golfers globally. Rankings are calculated from points awarded based on players' finishing positions in eligible tournaments over a rolling two-year period with more recent performances given greater significance.
The OWGR is used for player eligibility for all the major golf tournaments including the Olympics, the OWGR table below for example shows the current top 15 male golfers in the world today based on their performance ranking points:

Golf Betting Tips Free
Above you can see the most popular free golf predictions on OLBG today for the upcoming golf tournaments. Under the "Tournaments" tab you will see predictions for a variety of golf betting tournament markets including:
- Tournament Outright Winner
This prediction is for the golfer to win the tournament, it can be a "Win" bet so the golfer has to win the event or it may be an "Each Way" selection which means the golfer can usually finish in the top 5 to 8 places and a partial payout will result. The place terms can vary from tournament to tournament for "Each Way" betting, which may be a 1/4 or 1/5 of the odds for the "place" element of the odds and bookmakers may offer up to 8 or even 10 places for the big tournaments like the Masters and the US Open. The place terms are available and displayed by the sportsbooks along with the respective odds markets before placing your wager so be sure to check you are happy before finalising any bets.
- First Round Leader
Similar to the Outright Tournament Winner betting market only this time tips are for the golfer leading after Round 1 has been completed, selections again can be placed to "Win" or "Each Way". The Each Way bet usually covers the first 4 places with bookies but the number of places on offer may vary so best to check before placing any wagers.
- 72 Hole Match Bets (for example, Woods v McIlroy)
In this bet you are simply betting on which player finishes ahead of the other, it does not matter if either does not win the tournament it is simply who finished in the better ranking for the tournament.
- Top GB & Ireland
As the title suggests this betting market solely focuses on players from Great Britain & Ireland, similarly you may also find Top European and Top American betting markets for players from those locations. You are still simply betting on which golfer you feel will finish the tournament with the best ranking, again they do not have to win the whole tournament they just need to finish in the best position out of the players quoted in this betting market. Each Way betting is usually available in the Top American, Top GB&IRE betting markets, especially for the main events but it may not always be the case for the regular weekly tournaments depending on the number of players from designated locations taking part.
Betting Odds
The selection odds are also shown along with the number of tips received against the total number of tips on available outcomes in the betting market which gives the confidence percentage figure. If you click on the "tips and comments" tab on the navigation menu the predictions will sort by volume in ascending or descending order.
Value Rating
The Value Rating column indicates a 1 to 5-star value wager, 5 stars being the best. The Value Rating is calculated by comparing the % of picks against the total number, the odds of a selection and the theoretical chances of winning. If the tip % is higher than the theoretical chances of winning according to the odds, that is a sign that the selection could offer a value bet. Click the Value Rating column tab to sort selections by the number of stars.
