The Open Golf Championship traditionally held in mid-July is the only major outside the USA, with the PGA, US Masters and US Open being the other three.
The Open will become the last major of the year after rescheduling of the dates.
The Open is played from Thursday through Sunday, there is a cut after 36 holes, with those who have made the cut completing two more rounds over the weekend.
The winner picks up the trophy, commonly referred to as the "Claret Jug" normally on Sunday evening.
