The 5yo has run well in his last two starts. He was runner-up last time out and was a little short of room. The winner, who was then raised 7 lb, had got the first run that day. A decent yardstick was back in third. He posted four high RPR ratings last spring. A return to that level of form would make him a big player off his new low mark.

The 5yo mare progressed nicely last year, winning 2 from 4 on turf during the summer. She has had two flat runs since and was only beaten 2L over this 7f C/D when last seen, finishing strong after some trouble and a bit short of room. She was beaten in that race by two runners who have both run some nice races since and are rated much higher. She has had a nice two-month break, is on a slightly lower mark now, and an apprentice is taking another 5 lb off her back.

Lightly raced 4yo. He ran a nice race over this 5f course and distance last month after coming off a three-month break, and should be better for the run. He was only 4th and beaten 2L that day, outpaced at the finish, but he was beaten by runners rated 78 and 84, with the winner now rated 90. He has a 2 lb lower mark now and has just one rival rated above 69.

Very lightly raced 5-year-old mare who has been rated much higher in the past. Her two runs this winter, after coming off a seven-month break, should have her in good shape now. She was beaten under a length over this 5f trip last month, with the majority of her rivals that day rated 80??'89. Same mark for this handicap, strong jockey change, no rival rated above 70 in this race, and she looks set for a big run.

The 5yo ran well in four of his five turf starts in the second half of last year. Good quality Class 2 handicap races ??' no worries in this Class 3 handicap. He’s returning from a three-month break but is on a handy-looking mark. The trainer has had 3 winners from 7 runners in the last two weeks. The selection has had just three career AW runs, all at this track, resulting in two wins and a third.

Three runs this winter for the 4yo who has found his form. He was a novice stakes winner during Dec. The runner-up won next time out. He was beaten by just a head last month at this class 4 handicap level, posting a high RPR rating and was 6L clear of the rest. The winner from that race won next time out. Same mark for this handicap and should be in the mix.

The 6-year-old is on a good-looking mark now. He was a little unlucky three weeks ago when not getting a clear run and is better judged on his previous start. He was not beaten far in a quality 13-runner handicap that day when finishing 5th, with ten of his rivals rated 95??'104. No rivals are rated above 85 in this handicap, and he should have a more suitable pace. He has a 2 lb lower mark plus an apprentice claiming 5 lb.

The 5-year-old mare was a runner-up three weeks ago at Kempton after being supported in the market. She was returning from a three-month break, tired at the finish and beaten by a progressive type. She should be better for the run. She has been first or second in 7 of 12 AW races. I like the fact that she’s had just one previous run at Newcastle, last April in a £77K Class 2 handicap, finishing a close 3rd of 14. She has a 2 lb lower mark for this Class 4 handicap.

Lightly raced 4yo, very smart on the flat and rated a very useful 103. He has now joined the Nicky Henderson yard and would have had plenty of schooling over hurdles in his recent four-month break. He now makes his jumping debut in this novice hurdle. The market leader carries a 10 lb penalty, while the selection receives a 12 lb age allowance, and that 22 lb pull in the weights should give him a chance.

The 7-year-old mare is clear on the ratings for this Listed hurdle, and the form is backed up with good RPR numbers. She has three wins from eight over hurdles, was runner-up twice, and is proven on soft ground. She was a close runner-up to a useful 140-rated runner five weeks ago and is in good shape.

The 10-year-old ran a respectable race at the Festival last March in the 26-runner Coral Cup handicap and can still have something to offer. Just one run since ??' last summer. He has since joined the good Bramley yard, and they can get him back in top shape. He’s been rated much higher in the past, and a very good apprentice also takes a useful 5 lb off his back. The going could become heavy come Saturday, which won’t be a problem for the selection.

Lightly raced 8yo. Back from a seven month break this winter to make his chase debut and is now 2 wins from 2 over fences. He posted a high RPR rating seven weeks ago when winning a good quality Grade 2 novice chase by an easy 9L and is fine on the slow ground. I don’t think his main rival in this three runner novice Grade 2 chase is the most fluent when it comes to jumping.

A four-runner Grade 2 chase. The short-priced favourite won the Welsh National over 3m 6f during December, and that may have left a mark, so is worth taking on. The selection is rated 5 lb higher than the favourite. He was runner-up in his two runs this winter, with high ratings posted, is in good shape, and could be set for another big run. The trip and conditions will suit him.

Three runs this winter for the selection. Not great, but his fitness should be improving. He started his last campaign off a 16 lb higher mark. Good jockey taking over in the saddle, and he was in the saddle for his last two wins. A trainer in decent form: 16 runners sent out during Nov??'Dec, producing 5 winners for a 31% strike rate.

The 5yo looks like a star in the making. He has five wins from six under rules. His only defeat was by a neck in a 17-runner Grade 1 hurdle at the Festival last March. He won an Irish Grade 1 hurdle by 4 lengths six weeks later. He has two wins from two over fences this winter. An impressive 9-length Grade 1 chase winner last time out. We’ve not seen the best of him yet, and he is the one to beat in this Grade 2 contest.

Unexposed, 6-year-old. Four starts over hurdles. He was an easy 5L winner last time out in a 15-runner novice stakes. He’s better judged on his previous run, a close second in a novice stakes which has worked out very well. He’s had a nice two-month break and could prove to be much better than his opening handicap mark of 130.
