The 5yo is unexposed after just three runs, form 122. Two narrow defeats in novice races and was 17L+ clear of the 3rd in both those defeats. He has posted three good RPR ratings. He’s trained at the Dan Skelton yard, he’s had a nice 6 week break, open to plenty more improvement and could prove to be much better than his opening handicap mark of 124.
WIN @
Steady progressive stats from the 5yo gelding, 3 wins from 10 on turf, placed in 4 other races. He ran a big race in the 18 runner, £39K Spring Mile five weeks ago. Drawn in stall 1 on the far side, after 2f he was on the near side rail and at the rear, 2f out he switched to the centre to get daylight and still manage to finish 2nd, beaten 1/2L, the field strung out. He gave up so much ground in that race he has to have a big chance with a clear run in this contest.

The 8yo is a little hit or miss, like a few of these runners. Things didn't go to plan at the festival but he was only beaten 4L in his previous race, behind the smart ‘Shishkin’. I like the fact that he has run well in his three visits to this track, an unlucky late faller and two narrow defeats. Proven going right handed is a plus and the 8yo still has room to progress in the chasing game.
WIN @
Plenty of miles on the clock for the 6yo, but he has ability, 7 career wins and £232K in prize money. He was a respectable 5th last week in a strong conditions race, beaten by four runners rated 104-109. He was coming off a 6 month break and after a wind-op and he should be sharper now. No problem with the very slow ground and his handicap mark of 98 gives him every chance.

He could be the value in this Grade 1 chase. He’s a previous C/D winner. He’s closely matched with Jonbon’ who is turned out quite quickly after a win at Aintree. ‘El Fab’ was a big flop at the festival and a question mark against him. The selection was a wide margin Grade 2 winner two starts back and switching to front running tactics, and had every chance at the festival in the Champion Chase, but fell 2 out.
WIN @
Only an 8yo. He has 4 wins from 12 over fences. Two runs this year and in decent shape, beaten 4L and 5L. Both those runs at this track, which is a positive. Just behind the runner-up last time out, and that one ran a good race in the Scottish National last week. He’s weighted to go well, he’s a previous winner over this 28f trip and will be fresher than most after a 7 week break.
