Elizabeth Line leads the way in the betting odds to win this year's Stirling Prize

London shines bright in the nominees for the 2024 Stirling Prize with TfL's Elizabeth Line the favourite to be awarded the most prestigious award in British architecture this year.

The Elizabeth Line covers a whopping 62 miles of track with 10 new stations made for the line itself and there are said to be more than 200 million passengers a year that travel on the line.

There's a massive team that worked on the Elizabeth Line's creating with Grimshaw, Maynard, AtkinsRéalis and Equation focusing across the whole line and many more on individual stations.

Each of the Elizabeth Line's underground stations has the same distinct architecture that is line-wide and has it's own clear visual palette.

Betting sites have offered markets in the past on the Stirling Prize and as of yet haven't got specific odds available, but OLBG's industry experts have the Elizabeth Line as the evens favourite to win the award later this year.

London's Elizabeth Line has a 50% chance of winning the RIBA Stirling Prize according to the latest odds, with the London-dominated nominations seeing the four of the six contenders also the top four in the market.

Four of the six nominees are designs in London

This year's Stirling Prize nominees are dominated by London-based designs with four out of the six nominees all in England's capital city.

The other two designs that are nominated are the Park Hill Phase 2 in Sheffield and Wraxall Yard in Dorset with both the outsiders in the betting odds.

Previously the award has offered a £20,000 prize to the winner, but currently no prize money is offered.

The 2024 Stirling Prize ceremony will be held on 16 October 2024 at the Roundhouse, London.

Last year's Stirling Prize was won by The John Morden Centre

2023's Stirling Prize was awarded to The John Morden Centre which is a retirement day centre in London by Mæ.

It wasn't just the Stirling Prize that was won by The John Morden Centre but the London Awards Building of the Year, Brick Awards and the New London Architecture Awards with the building receiving high praise.

Alex Ely, architect of the building, told the RIBA journal, "It is always a shock, you have expectations – hopes and dreams – but I didn’t want to get my hopes up," about winning the Prize.
