Full Interwetten Bookmaker Review

This is a sportsbook that has been around for a huge amount of time, taking online bets for over 20 years. It’s immediately obvious that there’s a huge amount of experience behind the product, and the user experience is fantastic here.

There are plenty of nice little features, tools, and helpful angles for your betting, all laid out on an intuitive platform. The highlight, undoubtedly, is the football betting, thanks to its number of markets, regular odds boosts, and odds. Understandably, it looks where this is the bulk of the effort from the people behind it. Unfortunately for Irish punters, there is nothing in the way of horse racing, which means it’s very unlikely this is going to be your one-stop shop for all your betting. That said, this is a great betting option, especially for football bettors.

Interwetten Review Summary

A very good sportsbook, particularly for football, but no horse racing is a huge blot in its copybook.

Advantages and Disadvantages

All explained in greater detail in this review, these pros and cons allow users to scan and understand where Interwetten's strengths lie quickly.

Pros

  • Lots of Odds Boosts, particularly for football.

  • Huge number of markets per event, across multiple sports.

  • Nice Odds Under 2.0 tool.

Cons

  • No horse racing betting.

  • No greyhound racing betting.

Who are Interwetten?

Interwetten launched in 1990. The Austrian sportsbook spent its first seven years offering just sports betting, just through telephone betting. They then added online betting, before a casino arm of the product in 2004. They have a huge wealth of experience, and have tailored their product well to match various international markets beyond Austria.

First Impression of Interwetten

Everything looks as you’d expect. Aside from the yellow graphics, the design is pretty straightforward, with in-play markets on the homepage surrounded by a number of different features. The more you take a look at these features, the more you think “that’s pretty good” and similar. There are trending bets (“Hot Bets”), odds boosts, various promos, the ability to filter markets for today from anything from one hour away, to 12 hours away. I also really like the specific “Odds under 2.00” – the ability to take you directly to short odds markets where you can immediately find odds on markets across any sport.

Live Betting

If you choose the LIVE tab on the main menu you’ll be taken straight to the live betting, as expected. This looks quite impressive, all things considered. There are plenty of sports here to choose between, with a great variety – bettors can find football, tennis and basketball, as you’d expect, but also table tennis, volleyball, handball, esports and a few others. The markets look good and there are some basic in-play statistics. You can check if they make it into our best bookmakers for in-play betting here.

Live Streaming

Interwetten doesn’t offer any live streaming in Ireland at the time of review.

Betting Odds

Comparing Interwetten’s odds to other bookies across the industry, as well as checking some comparison sites, they’re right in that sweet spot. We checked football, tennis and basketball for in-play odds, plus horse racing, and cricket for pre-match and antepost odds. There’s nothing that jumps out as incredible, but most odds, regardless of sport, are nice enough. What’s worth highlighting is that Interwetten offers odds on some very minor sports (futsal and biathlon, for example).

⚽ Football Betting

At OLBG, we rank every bookie, at every sport, and Interwetten is just a bit off our best football betting sites in the UK, but should still be a bookie for consideration. There is an enormous number of leagues and competitions covered, from all around the world, and it could go head to head for event coverage with any sportsbook in Ireland. There are an incredible amount of markets per game, which is fantastic to see, and there’s also plenty of pre-game stats provided by SportsRadar that you can access.

Bet Builder

This is very good. You can go to a number of different sports and you’ll find great bet builder options. I’ve already mentioned that there are pre-built ones waiting, and these can always be a bit misleading I think sometimes, with bookies trying to send you in a particular direction. But for an upcoming Premier League game, for example, there are 195 different markets to choose from (they tell you under each tab).

Bonuses

This is pretty limited overall. Especially for football where there isn’t anything to speak of, aside from the welcome offer. You do get plenty of odds boosts, which seems to be the exception, because most of them are football-based, and there are some cash back opportunities, but there is nothing in the way of acca insurance, substitution guarantee, or offers along those lines.

Cash Out

Cash out is a very important betting feature for punters these days so it's crucial that bookies integrate this feature into their mobile betting apps. Interwetten have done this well, allowing their customers to instantly cash out their bets on any device they like.

🏇 Horse Racing

Interwetten offers no horse racing at the time of review.

You can find our top 10 best horse racing betting sites.

🇺🇸 US Sports Betting

A full range of American Sports is available, including all the major leagues, plus college games and the same sports across the globe.

🏈 American Football Betting

You’ll find the three main markets – moneyline, total and spread, although it’s not quite presented as you’d like, and it takes a few seconds to work out what the spread actually is once you check the odds. We’ll gloss over the fact that the spread is titled Handicap which, for me, is a little confusing, but that aside, this is pretty good. There are a tonne of markets, and some outrights and futures for things like divisional winners, but there is nothing in the way of player props, or MVP awards. It’s worth checking out our best NFL betting sites to see how Interwetten compares.

🏀 Basketball Betting

Interwetten has a brilliant selection of basketball leagues to bet on, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands, of competitions. There’s obviously the NBA, but Interwetten covers a wide range of EuroLeague and domestic world competitions, including competitions in Brazil, Vietnam and Turkey, among others. There are also plenty of markets per game, with game, team and player markets covered impressively. Take the WNBA, for example, with a fantastic range of markets – match, halves/quarters, points, player probs on points, rebounds, assists etc. – right across the board. It’s quite impressive. You can also compare Interwetten to the best basketball betting sites.

⚾ Baseball Betting

Interwetten just covers the MLB, so there are no markets for the Japanese, South Korean or any other international competitions. The markets, and the odds, especially on the outrights, look pretty good. The MLB season is well underway and there are loads of things to bet on, but no individual awards, which aren’t represented here unfortunately, but the number of markets per game is good enough and there are loads of player prop options. In short, good for individual games, but not futures. Keep tabs on the top baseball betting sites though.

🏒 Ice Hockey Betting

The NHL takes up the bulk of space here, as expected. But there are also some Australian, Finnish and German fixtures included, among others. I selected an upcoming NHL game and there are loads of markets listed – more than pretty much anywhere else. For the smaller leagues that reduces a bit more, which is understandable. It’s quite nice to see some odds on the Conn Smythe trophy, also, that’s definitely something that you won’t get everywhere.

🐕 Greyhound Betting

Interwetten offers no greyhound racing at the time of review. You can check out the best greyhound betting sites according to OLBG.

🎯 Darts Betting

Matthew Edgar

Matthew Edgar

This isn’t too bad at all from Interwetten, and it does do some very good things here, compared to other darts betting sites in Ireland. There are plenty of outright markets on future events, and they look decent enough. That includes the World Championships, the World Cup – they may be a way off, but that’s something I’d expect to see all year round to be honest, so that feels like a miss. I can see myself coming back, because the immediate stuff is good, but it does feel like there’s some improvements to be had.

Snooker Betting

Steve Madgwick

Steve Madgwick

Editor-in-chief

The snooker betting at Interwetten is okay, probabs a little bit above average, but I’d hesitate saying it’s any better than that. It covers the main competitions – World Championships, the Masters and UK Championships – with some basic markets for each. I’d like to see greater coverage of some of the smaller events and competitions, with more markets per competition while we’re at it, but this is solid enough, even if it doesn’t trouble the very best.

🏉 Rugby Betting (Union & League)

By Luke Bradshaw Lee - Within the rugby section on the menu, Interwetten splits union and league into different categories which obviously makes sense. For both, there is pretty much every competition that you’d want to be included here, which is really good to see. The only omission is the Japanese domestic league (in Union), which only a handful of other betting sites include, but that’s being picky. The overall the coverage of competitions is fantastic, with even the second tier of French rugby is there. For rugby league there are the usual competitions here like other bookies, with loads of markets for NRL, plus Super League and RFL competitions included, too. See how they compare to our best Rugby betting sites.

🏏 Cricket Betting

James Banting

James Banting

Tipster competition assistant

The cricket betting here is alright, but nothing special. There is some coverage of international games – Test matches, T20 and other ODIs – which is to be expected. Beyond that, domestic competitions in England, India, Australia and South Africa, so the overall event coverage is pretty good. That said, the number of markets per match is very limited. I’d also like to see some Caribbean competitions included, which I can’t find here. Overall, this is solid if unspectacular.

We list the 10 best cricket betting sites here.

🎾 Tennis Betting

By James Banting -  The best part of the tennis betting is the live betting for the in-play markets, although there isn’t any live streaming, but the stats are great and there’s plenty to support your betting decisions. There are all the major competitions covered, with Grand Slams, ATP and WTA tournaments, and even ITF and UTR level events. The number of markets per match, however, is pretty lacking, although the odds are decent enough. I can see myself using it for live betting but would probably look elsewhere for future and antepost markets. See if they make it into the top 10 tennis betting sites on OLBG.

🏌️ Golf Betting

By James Banting -  When I went to check out the golf section at Interwetten there are plenty of different events so I already know that there’s going to be enough before I’ve even clicked and dug any deeper. As expected, all the majors are there for next year, plus more immediate, smaller tournaments such as the Magical Kenya Open, TGL and Mexican Open. It’s worth checking our best golf betting sites to see how Interwetten compares – but generally this is pretty good.

🏎️ Motorsports Betting

Andy Powell

Andy Powell

Content editor

Formula 1, motorsport and motorbikes are all separate options on the main sports menu – I personally think that’s the best way of doing it, because punters are going to distinguish between the sections eventually. The Formula 1 markets for upcoming Grand Prix are about average, I’d like to see more. The other sections don’t go any further than MotoGP and NASCAR, with basic winner markets for each, and some outrights. Overall, this is nice enough.

🥊 Boxing Betting

Frank Monkhouse

Frank Monkhouse

Boxing editor

There’s enough decent boxing betting to keep me interested here, and the markets look dependent on how far away the actual fight is. Those this weekend and over the next few weeks have an okay offering, whereas the further away they get the less markets on offer. That’s understandable, and I wouldn’t expect to find round by round and the like for fights that are months away, but I would definitely like more options for big bouts this weekend, and that’s definitely limited, based on my experience with Interwetten.

Other Sports Betting

Whilst these sports might sound very niche, there is still a large enough market for fans, and millions of them in the UK, so good coverage of niche sports and events is key to be reviewed on OLBG; let’s dig in a bit further.

Other sports at Interwetten 🌍🏀🏐🚴🎮

Interwetten offers diverse betting options: handball 🏆, volleyball 🏐, cycling 🚴, Aussie rules 🏉, and esports 🎮. Explore global matches, detailed stats, and infinite markets.

Interwetten offers extensive betting options for handball, volleyball, cycling, AFL betting, and esports. Handball includes global competitions; volleyball, covers European Championships and various tournaments; cycling features future tours and current races; AFL betting has comprehensive stats and esports offers all major games like League of Legends and CS:GO.

🗳️ Political Betting

Nigel Skinner

Nigel Skinner

Blog content manager

Interwetten has its political betting under its own Politics tab. At the time of the review there isn’t a huge amount of political betting to be had generally, so this is actually a pretty good offering generally. There are future markets on the UK in terms of next permanent leaders, and then there are markets for the USA, Australia and Germany. These are the ones on the upcoming political agenda, so it’s nice to see Interwetten moving with the upcoming news cycle.

Compare to the best political betting sites.

🎭 Entertainment and Specials Betting

Jake Ashton

Jake Ashton

Senior news editor

You’ll find the relevant markets under the Specials tab. This is very basic, with just a few different markets included. There is nothing in the way of Irish or UK reality TV programmes or awards ceremonies. With plenty of other TV shows on at the moment, and award ceremonies on the horizon I’d definitely like to see more.

Compare to the best entertainment betting sites.

Casino

Interwetten does have casino. Despite the name of the brand, it's incredibly easy to find their casino offering from their sportsbook, with banners across the top. They also have some bonuses and offers that lead to casino spins should you win sportsbook bets. Check our Casino Sites page for dedicated new online casinos and slot sites.

Account Opening Process

A reassuringly easy process. At the top-right of the screen Interwetten has their “JOIN” button. Bettors just need to select this and follow the simple steps as guided through. You’ll be asked for the usual information – name, date of birth, address etc – and once complete be sent a verification email. Clicking this from your inbox will redirect you to the site, and then you’re free to get betting.

Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]

The Interwetten app is very good. It does exactly what you want and that is not to feel too far removed when you switch from one device to the next, but also being product-led, and designed to suit its purpose more than a proper mobile version.

Placing a bet

This section should only really highlight if there are issues, as the process is almost identical on every site. Within a few minutes of signing up to Interwetten I placed a couple of bets on different sports, one of which took advantage of the welcome offer, and I used their bet builder feature, which was very good indeed.

Managing your account

As mentioned above, the design really helps this along. On the desktop version, it’s stuff to the  left of the screen. On the mobile version, it’s all at the bottom, with just the login at the top. I haven’t experienced any issues logging in, or finding customer service options, either. Overall, it feels like Interwetten has got this part nailed.

Interwetten Responsible Gambling Features

As with all online betting companies, responsible gambling should be and will be an essential element of the service provided.

Expect KYC procedures and document supply as a matter-of-course, to confirm your account after you have deposited a certain level of funds and in the event of any large wins.

You can set limits for yourself across depositing options and daily staking options too, so you can set your levels and keep control of your gambling.

Expect Interwetten to contact you via your preferred communication method if there are suspicious activities on your account. This protects your account from being accessed by someone other than you and ensures you control your gambling activity. Interwetten have a legal obligation to question your activity if they believe it to be suspicious.

Responsible Gambling

Interwetten has a full suite of responsible gambling tools for your protection and may request further identification after certain depositing levels are exceeded or stakes are increased quickly.
