May Trainers (Turf)

After a fantastic April with almost 100 LSP we are now just in front for the year.  Last May gave us almost 100 LSP but that was largely down to a massive priced Guineas winner.  We have Seven trainers back from last year and three newbies.  I will include the AW section at the end of the blog as there are only two to follow on the AW this month.

RICHARD HANNON (2&3yo's)

A regular to the May blog with either his 2yo's or 2 & 3yo's, we got a little lucky last year when Billesdon Brook won the 1000 Guineas at 66's, we had it at 120, without that he would have made a loss but his previous years stats stack up well.

  • 2014 27/143 19% +£60.02
  • 2015 29/144 20% +£ 5.98
  • 2016 30/156 19% +£43.95
  • 2017 21/130 16% (£28.35)
  • 2018 15/126 12% (£ 4.59)

Our own EP figures showed a +£8.00 profit in 2017 and a +£70.00 profit last year if he can bag 20 winners we should be fine but get on early where possibly.

WILLIE HAGGAS (ALL)

New to the May blog although I doubt it will be the last time we see him this year.

  • 2015     10/44     23%     +£4.90
  • 2016      8/48      17%     (£13.47)
  • 2017     17/66     26%     +£7.02
  • 2018     19/76     25%     +£0.14

With upward of 15 winners in the last two years we can expect a much bigger profit with Early Prices and he's hitting form at the right time with all his 4 April winners coming in the last 14 days, he's also had 9 seconds in those 14 days.

RALPH BECKETT (ALL)

Regulars to the blog will know that this guy is one of my favourite trainers, he did the business for us last year with a +13 point profit.

  • 2013 11/48 23% +£34.58
  • 2014 11/64 17% +£ 1.50
  • 2015 12/54 22% (£ 3.71)
  • 2016 10/47 21% (£ 5.47)
  • 2017 9/52 17% +£2.41
  • 2018 8/50 16% +£3.43

Not as eye catching as some but again we bettered the SP results by 10,4 and 10 points in the last three years which turns solid results into good ones.  Three of his 6 weekend runners won at 9/2, 10/3 and 10's which also bodes well.

HUGHIE MORRISON (3YO'S)

Another one of my favourites and with 70 points profit last year it's easy to see why.

  • 2014 6/16 38% +£13.00
  • 2015 4/14 29% +£18.50
  • 2016 2/18 11% (£9.00)
  • 2017 5/18 28% +£29.71
  • 2018 3/20 15% +£23.00

Just his 3yo's remember, he was 0/30 with his other runners last year, another to get on early with, we had his winners at 14's 22's and 50's last year, they all returned much shorter.

SCOTT DIXON (ALL)

Notts trainer and possible blog virgin although he may have sneaked into an AW blog back in the day.

  • 2015     2/21     10%     (£8.50)
  • 2016     3/24     13%    +£27.50
  • 2017     9/30     30%    +£71.50
  • 2018     3/22     14%    +£15.00

A little risky in terms of strike rate and you could narrow that risk my omitting his 2yo's with only 1 winner from 11 runners in that sphere in the period above, that winner was however 16/1!

JIM BOYLE (3Y0+)

Epsom trainer and definate blog virgin, has a particularly good record on the Lingfield turf.

  • 2015     0/7     0%     (£7.00)
  • 2016     2/12   17%   +£8.25
  • 2017     5/18   28%   +£32.50
  • 2018     3/16   19%   +£ 3.00

Similar stas to Dixon in lots of ways but no 2yo's for this guy, he's 0/7 in the 4 years we looked at.

PETER NIVEN (ALL)

Back from the previous two years where he's given us a small profit.

  • 2014 2/5 40% +£ 5.00
  • 2015 2/6 33% +£ 6.25
  • 2016 1/3 33% +£ 0.50
  • 2017 1/8 13% +£5.00
  • 2018 1/9 11%   (£3.00)

We were +£2.00 with him last year and +£8.00 the year before, we could do with a better strike rate though going forward.

ED VAUGHAN (3Y0+)

Last up for the GB turf and another back from last year where he gave a small return.

  • 2014 1/7 14% +£ 6.00
  • 2015 2/5 40% +£40.00
  • 2016 2/2 100% +£17.00
  • 2017 2/5 40% +£3.50
  • 2018 1/8 13% (£2.00)

Similar to Niven we could do with slightly better figures to include next year but he did give us a profit last year and won't have lots of runners so little risk involved.

May Trainers (Turf Ireland)

A couple of Irish trainers return from last year to give us unterest over the water.

GER LYONS (ALL)

Back from last month and last year where he gave profits on both blogs +£19.10 on the May blog last year.

  • 2014 6/13 19% +£1.67
  • 2015 11/49 22% +£23.63
  • 2016 10/46 22% +£0.61
  • 2017 8/49 16% (£10.02)
  • 2018 13/61 21% +£5.39

You must get on these runners early, we were +£14 with him in 2017 and +£19 last year which is 24 and 14 points difference to SP.

W McCREERY (3YO+)

Another back from last year where have gave a small loss but I made a note to include with five seconds, four of which where 5/1+ and a couple were short headed.

  • 2015 1/21 5% (£17.75)
  • 2016 11/43 26% +£24.20
  • 2017 10/39 26%+£22.83
  • 2018 4/30  13%  (£4.40)

Our own figures were slightly better at (£2.61).  Don't touch his 2yo's, he's 0/10 with those over the above period.

May Trainers (GB AW)

Only a couple of AW trainers this month, not enough for there own blog so we'll sneak them in here.

SIMON CRISFORD (ALL)

Back from last month and last year where he did the business.

  • 2015 0/1 0% (£1.00)
  • 2016 2/7 29% +£7.50
  • 2017 3/11 27% +£7.50
  • 2018 2/8 25% (£1.50)

Our own figures were +£3.50 last year and he's shown a +£17.00 profit in April.

CLIVE COX (ALL)

Lambourn trainer, fairly regular on the turf blog, not so much on the AW.

  • 2016     1/3     33%     +£6.00
  • 2017     1/1    100%    +£4.50
  • 2018     2/2    100%    +£4.75

It's a small sample and it won't make us rich but worth inclusion all the same.

Results will appear below, as always any comments, questions or observations please leave in the comments section.

Results

1st - Ok start but our April trainers had the first three winners at 20's 9's and 4's.  The Willie's came to the rescue though 3 winners for Mullins and two for Haggas.     5/28     (£4.35)

2nd - Just the Willie's again today but not big prices so another losing day.     4/24     (£6.09)

3rd - Started wel with a Beckett winner at 14's then just a small Mullins winner, small loss.     2/23     (£3.00)

4th - Eventful to say the least, 2nd in the big race at 180 and a 2nd in Ireland at 80.  At 5.30 it was looking really really bad then winners at 20's 14's 15/2 and 15/8 meant a winning

        day.     8/55     +£11.42

5th - Decent day with a 14/1 winner for Hannon and three other short ones.     4/11     +£11.20

6th - Poor day on the whole four winners and a few placed but no big prices.     4/30     (£15.51)

7th - Three short ones, virtually level.     3/10     (£2.01)

8th - Mullins 11/1 winner was the highlight of the day, other smaller winners meant small profit.     4/22     +£2.50

9th - Three winners, tiny profit.     3/15     +£0.32

10th - Ireland saved the day with a treble for Lyons and a nice winner for McCreery.     6/31     (£3.59)

11th - Poor day, six winners but nothing bigger than 9/2 from loads of runners.     6/47     (£21.25)

12th - Similar to yesterday, winners but all short.     4/23     (£13.65)

13th - Winners for Hannon, Henderson, Lyons and McCreery, winning day.     4/11     +£4.80

14th - Poor afternoon but 6 winners at night, the highlight was a 11/1 winner for Seamus Mullins.     8/24     +£12.58

15th - Another poor afternoon the Boyle came to out rescue at night winners at 12's and 25's (the second returned 14's).     2/19     +£21.00

16th - Good run ended, no saviour at night today, we did bag the Dante winner though.     1/25     (£17.00)

17th - Another great day with Hannon's 20/1 shot the highlight.     6/31     +£18.25

18th - Good day, bad day, good day, bad day.     5/44     (£20.05)

19th - Plenty of winners but a Skelton 9's shot aside short prices, level day.     6/23     +£0.57

20th - Nothing today but losers.     0/9     (£9.00)

21st - First wiiner of the day at 18's set us up nicely, then nothing.  Still a winning day though.     1/12     +£7.00

22nd - Four 1st's, Four 2nd's, Four 3rd's but nothing bigger than 7/4.     4/20     (£10.50)

23rd - Started with a nice Hannon winner again but managed to follow up today with a Beckett double and Boyle 14/1 shot.     4/11     +£24.50

24th - A small loss today, poor old Scott Dixon must be banging his head another double figure second placed runner today.     3/16     (£4.13)

25th - Two nice priced winners early then Dixon again second at 25's and Haggas similarly, poor day.     2/29     (£11.00)

26th - No hard luck stories today.     3/20     (£11.83)

27th - Profit today but it could have been so much better with seconds at 7's 10's 20's and 28's     4/14     +£1.88

28th - Nice winner for Beckett today, small loss though.     1/7     (£0.50)

29th - One of the best days I can remember in terms of number of winners but seven were 9/4 and below, still a nice profit.     10/23     +£15.01

30th - Poor day today which probably puts pay to finishing the month in profit.     2/25     (£21.00)

31st - A double for Beckett and a nice winner in Ireland meant we went out on a winner, our June runners had the first four at Carlisle.....what a difference a day makes.......24 little              hours.     4/21     +£8.00

Monthly Total     123/703     (£35.40)

Yearly Total     394/2046    (£33.02)
