October Trainers

We're back on track after a cracking September +£50 LSP, we stand at around (£40.00) for the season so with a decent final quarter a profitable year is not out of the question.  With the flat season tailing off we welcome back some NH early season regs.  Three of our four NH trainers made a healthy profit last season, we've added another two and an Irish raider.  With a couple of flat turf trainers and a couple on the AW we have plenty to go at.

FLAT TURF (GB)

HENRY CANDY (3yo+)

Our only returnee from last year, no coincidence that he performs well at this time of year as lots of his horses thrive on Soft ground.

  • 2015 3/14 21% +£16.00
  • 2016 3/20 15% +£3.50
  • 2017 4/11 36% +£9.75
  • 2018 2/18 11% (£0.25)
  • 2019 1/8 13% (£3.00)

We mangaged a small profit using early prices, he also had two seconds from his eight runner (one at 20's).  Really need some improvement going forward.

RALPH BECKETT (2yo's)

Back from last month where he performed well with his AW runners.  We're just looking at his 2yo's this month.

  • 2016     6/29     21%     +£16.58
  • 2017     2/10     20%      (£ 4.75)
  • 2018     6/23     26%      (£ 1.09)
  • 2019     6/19     32%     +£41.50

Cracking strike rate and it looks last he got the LSP last year that his stats deserved the previous year.

GB NH

NIGEL TWISTON-DAVIES (ALL)

Back from last year where he gave us a +£13.00 LSP, usually gets the season off to a flyer.

  • 2014 12/43 28% +£21.63
  • 2015 10/47 21% +£23.06
  • 2016 20/62 32% +£23.24
  • 2017 11/64 17% (£0.93)
  • 2018 11/58 19% (£14.47)
  • 2019 13/70 19% (£ 0.59)

Double figure winners gives usually means we can make gains on the SP figures and that was the case last year where we turned a small loss into a healthy profit by getting the early value.

KEITH DALGLEISH (ALL)

Lanarks trainer back from last year where he gave a similar profit to NTD.

  • 2014 4/8 50% +£7.19
  • 2015 0/2 0% (£2.00)
  • 2016 1/2 50% +£0.75
  • 2017 3/7 43% +£2.25
  • 2018 6/15 40% +£2.70
  • 2019 4/21 19% (£4.75)

Winners last season included 16/1, 13/2 ans 11/2 another trainer where you need to take the early prices.

NEIL KING (ALL)

Last up this month is Barbury Castle trainer Neil King, plenty to like about his October figures.

  • 2015     5/29     17%     (£10.75)
  • 2016     3/14     21%     (£ 1.40)
  • 2017     2/10     20%    +£0.50
  • 2018     8/22     36%     (£3.74)
  • 2019     3/14     21%     +£2.00

Our own figures showed a +£12.00 LSP as we managed 16/1 on one of his three winners.

FERGAL O'BRIEN (ALL)

Usually features in an early season blog, he's started the season really well again.

  • 2016     8/29     28%     +£37.88
  • 2017     9/40     23%      (£ 7.60)
  • 2018     5/38     13%      (£21.65)
  • 2019    12/36    33%     +£21.25

Only one bad year and comes into the month with a 35% strike rate in September.

KIM BAILEY (ALL)

Another blog regular but not usually this early in the season though.

  • 2016     3/23     13%     (£9.00)
  • 2017     4/33     12%     (£5.33)
  • 2018     9/22     41%    +£9.16
  • 2019     5/18     28%    +£14.43

Steady progression year on year in germs of LSP and ended September with a winners.

IRISH NH

NOEL MEADE (ALL)

Our only interest over the water this month and for such a prominent trainer I think he could be a blog virgin.

  • 2016     11/34     32%     +£7.25
  • 2017      9/42      21%     +£5.55
  • 2018      6/29      21%      (£2.00)
  • 2019     10/45     22%     +£13.47

Really solid set of figures and plenty of EP gains likely with double figure winners.

GB AW

ROGER VARIAN (2&3yo's)

The star of the show in 2018 with +£31.83 LSP and really good again last October.

  • 2014 4/16 25% +£0.75
  • 2015 4/19 21% +£18.00
  • 2016 4/30 13% (£17.52)
  • 2017 5/23 22%+£17.55
  • 2018 8/20 40% +£17.90
  • 2019 8/26 31%  +£9.34

Massively impressive in all but 2015, anything near this again and i'll be more than happy.

JOHN GOSDEN (ALL)

It wouldn't be a blog without Jonny Gee and he deservedly gets in again.

  • 2015 3/14 21% (£5.81)
  • 2016 5/17 29% +£6.97
  • 2017 7/24 29% +£4.94
  • 2018 7/23 30% +£3.30
  • 2019 13/42 31% +£2.67

The early price gains are never as big with Gosden horses but has a strike rate around the 30% mark and LSP to boot in each of the last three years make him a cert for inclusion.

As always any questions, observations or comments get involved below, they really help.
