The flat season starts at the weekend with the Lincoln but which trainers should we follow in the seasons early knockings, this blog which is currently running at around +£100 LSP will aim to highlight the trainers that come to hand early. Last April our Flat Turf trainers provided a return of almost +£130 LSP, lets hope we can do the same this year.

FLAT TURF (GB)

JOHN GOSDEN (ALL) Lets start with an old favourite, 2nd in last years trainers championship, he usually starts the season well.
2013 2/22 9% (£13.25)
2014 15/52 20% +£ 9.50
2015 14/45 31% +£17.03
2016 10/48 21% (£ 3.33)
Solid strike rate in the last 3 seasons and with 10 winnings almost certain profit with BOG last year.
RICHARD FAHEY (ALL) The riskiest proposition this month, with Fahey likely to have 100 runners this month, if it goes wrong it goes badly wrong!
2013 20/103 19% +£29.02
2014 15/111 14% (£33.07)
2015 21/96 22% +£23.03
2016 20/113 18% (£ 2.80)
We obviously need to avoid the 2014 figures but a repeat of last year and I would be confident of double figure profits using BOG.
HUGO PALMER (ALL) Trainer who is becoming more prominent year on year. Finished 8th on the money list last year. Has been ready to go early in recent years.
2013 0/4 0% (£ 4.00)
2014 0/8 0% (£ 8.00)
2015 3/8 38% +£23.50
2016 6/18 33% +£16.50
Increased runners and winners, I'm expecting similar again this year.
DAVID O'MEARA (4yo+) North Yorkshire trainer who seems to get his older horses ready early in the season. Back from last year.
2012 4/25 16% £13.00
2013 9/38 24% £ 4.58
2014 7/36 19% £16.38
2015 13/45 29% £32.41
2016 5/53 9% (£ 8.00)
Solid stuff until last year, even so our own figures were only (£3.00) LSP, my thinking is it can't get much worse than last year so it has to be worth risking 3 points with the potential of a repeat of the previous 4 years.
RALPH BECKETT (3yo's) In the blog last year with his 3 and 4yo's and although showing a profit it's now 2 years and 13 runners since his last non 3yo winner in April.
2013 1/17 6% (£ 6.00)
2014 7/25 28% +£28.50
2015 3/15 20% +£ 8.00
2016 4/17 24% +£ 5.75
Our own figures last year show +£15.25 LSP, a 10 point difference with only 4 winners, that's why I'm so confident of turning some of the LSL into profit earlier in the blog with 10-20 winners.
MICHAEL DODS (Non 3yo's) Durham trainer who gave us a nice profit last year despite having only 3 winners.
2012 2/17 12% +£ 5.00
2013 5/26 19% +£34.25
2014 7/22 32% +£35.50
2015 5/26 19% (£ 4.96)
2016 3/30 10% +£17.00
Took the Spring mile last year with Lord or the Rock who is entered up again this year.
JOHN QUINN (3yo+) Usually in the blog with his hurdlers but equally adept on the level.
2013 3/15 20% (£ 2.50)
2014 2/20 10% (£12.60)
2015 6/21 29% +£23.75
2016 9/29 31% +£25.75
Looks to have really targeted the start of the season in recent years, 0/12 with his 2yo's in the 4 year period.
ED DE GILES (ALL) The star of the month and probably the blog last year when he had a 50/1 winner that I bet at 120 on the exchanges!
2012 0/3 0% (£ 3.00)
2013 0/1 0% (£ 1.00)
2014 3/14 21% +£ 7.50
2015 4/7 57% +£ 9.75
2016 2/6 33% +£48.00
Hit the ground running the last three years, hopefully the same again this time around.
As always any queries, comments of observations please leave below.
RESULTS April 1st - Busy first day but we managed to bag the Lincoln winner, a division of the Brocklesby and three NH winners.
5/39
+£4.33
April 2nd - Poor day, no winners from loads of runners (6 placed horses).
0/23
(£23.00)
April 3rd - Winners for Moore and Bailey gave us a small profit.
2/8
+£0.25
April 4th - Just a Dwyer winner on the AW, took 11/8, returned 4/7!
1/6
(£3.62)
April 5th - Massively frustrating day, no winners but 8 placed horses!
0/15
(£15.00)
April 6th - Back in the game today, Jefferson landed a winner at Aintree, Swinbank and Dalgleish at Southwell then Jonny Gee has two in the evening. Plenty of BOG gains to boot. Beig Fella nearly did it at 120 on the xchange!
5/18
+£18.75
April 7th - Another sticky day with just a Fahey winner (took 8's) but loads of runners.
1/17
(£8.00)
8th April - Desperate stuff, managed 3rd in the National, a couple went close in the evening but that was it. Can't endure many more days like this.
0/24
(£24.00)
9th April - Well at least we had a winner today, not enough for profit though.
1/7
(£2.67)
10th April - Three nice winners for Mr Fahey puts us back in the right direction.
3/17
+£8.20
11th April - Bit of a frustrating one today, a nice winner for Quinn and short one from Fahey at Ponty got us almost level, then we had two seconds in 10 mins at 7's and 25's both looked like winning.
2/17
(£3.37)
12th April - Much better today and generally the horses are running better, I think we still have a chance of finishing the month in profit. Another double figure winner for Fahey but more important Jonny Gee who had been poor to date had three winners, his other two also ran well.
4/22
+£6.50
13th April - Quiet day, Bailey winner, small loss on the day.
1/4
(£1.12)
14th April - Just when I thought things had turned around we have another stinker. Dalgleish started us off well with a 5/1 winner then nothing even close.
1/16
(£10.00)
15th April - SUPER SATURDAY is here again! Fahey's Cullingworth at 28's (returned 20's I think) then Scott, Hawke, Beckett and King all added to the pot with winners ranging from 11/10 - 10/1 r4.
5/32
+£21.45
16th April - Was pulling my hair out today, seconds at 10's 10's and 9's and a third at 20's, then Bailey landed the last (backed at 22's).
2/10
+£16.00
17th April - So many runners today, 8 seconds didn't help but a couple of winners towards the end of the day limited the damage.
5/32
(£9.40)
18th April - Was looking like a poor day then 3 winners in 30 mins at 10's 8's and 9/2 (two for Gosden). The cherry on the cake was Quinn landing the last at Newmarket, backed at 12's returned 5's.
4/17
+£21.50
19th April - Another fantastic day largely due to Johnny Gee who had 3 Newmarket winners and one at Beverley, significant BOG gains with the last being backed at 8's but winning at 7/2. Fahey chipped in with two winners and one from O'Meara. Plenty of the others runners went close (6 placed) and some of those who weren't placed outran there odds.
7/29
+£21.85
20th April - We got out of jail a little today with just one winner from the first 22 runners then a fantastic half hour with three winners, the highlight being a 12/1 winner for Hugo Palmer.
4/31
(£8.67)
21nd April - Another decent day with two more winners for Gosden and a nice winner for Moore.
3/15
+£0.70
22nd April - Unbelievable day, 11 winners! Four for Fahey and three for Gosden, Jefferson, Quinn and then a double for Dwyer on the AW. We had 7 placed horses to go with that a couple at massive prices.
11/36
+£20.50
23rd April - Just the 5 runners today, a Tom George double ensured another day of profit.
2/5
+£1.61
24th April - Poor day in terms of winners (one) but 6 placed horses so there still running well.
1/15
(£10.00)
25th April - Gosden and Jefferson winners meant a small profit today.
2/8
+£2.37
26th April - Big priced winner for Fahey (14's) gave us an almost level day with a couple of smaller contributions from Fahey again and Gosden.
3/22
(£1.27)
27th April - Decent day, three winners, three seconds. Small profit again.
3/18
+£3.50
28th April - We just couldn't get a biggie over the line today, two 12/1 shots beaten a head or less another second at 14's and three over placed horses at 6/1+. We did manage 6 winners but nothing bigger than 13/2 so a virtually level day.
6/28
(£0.02)
29th April - A poor day with too many multi horse races. The highlight was a 11/1 winner for O'Meara.
4/39
(£20.94)
30th April - A strong finish to the month due to a J Quinn double (both won at 8's).

A up and down month which started poorly, Gosden at Newmarket was the highlight. A bad final Saturday cost us a little and one of next months trainers having a winner at 40's was also frustrating. A profitable month though and above +£100 is a good sign only a third through the year.
