First opened in 1926, this racetrack has been known as Tampa Downs, Sunshine Park, Florida Downs and Turf Club.

The highlight of the year is 'Festival Day' which is held in March of each year.

The highlight of the day is the Tampa Bay Derby, a race that is open to three-year-old runners and is run over one mile and half a furlong.

The Tampa Bay Derby is a prep race for the Kentucky Derby and in 2007, Street Sense became the first winner of both races.

Also held on Festival Day is the Hillsborough Stakes, a Grade 2 race open to older fillies and mares. It is run over one mile and one furlong.

This race can be a guide to the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf. In 2012 Zagora after winning this race went on to succeed at the Breeders Cup.

The Grade 3 Florida Oaks is also a feature on Festival Day. A race which is run over one mile and a half a furlong and is open to three-year-old fillies only.
