Nocte Volatus won going away in a C2 over 3 miles in November by 7½ lengths. That makes me think he can defy the 5 lb rise while keeping Stan Sheppard in the saddle.

The Skeltons have hardly put a foot wrong this season so far, and they can take this year's renewal of the Veterans' Handicap Chase with Le Milos. This race has been his long-term target for some time, and although he hasn't run well recently, I think he will show up today.

This one's last win came with Harry Cobden in the saddle, and he takes the ride today. With the hood back on, it looks ready for a big run. Even though the stable runs three, I prefer this Cobden one.

Yard have previous in this race, having won it last year and in 2020. The prospect of an easy lead at a course where jumping can be at a premium means he can defy an 8 lb rise for his Badger Beers win last time.

Took full advantage of his lowest handicap mark since 2020 when successful at Ludlow last month. Up five pounds but still on a workable mark based on his best form from last year.

Won this race last year when it was held at Market Rasen. Only 7th of 8 on seasonal reappearance last month, but should be fitter for having had that run. Holds an each-way chance.

Despite a prolonged losing streak, he stands a significant chance if he can replicate his best form from Ireland. However, it's difficult to feel confident after his disappointing debut for the new stable in the Warwick race. As a seasoned veteran, he has the potential to bounce back if he adjusts well to his new environment. At 14/1, an each-way bet could prove profitable.

Digby is a proper old warrior who still grinds out a good run over marathon trips. He loves 3m+ where he's won before, and Sandown's fences will suit him if he gets into a rhythm early. The handicap mark is very fair here, and he has placed off higher in the past. A 5 lb claimer from Patrick O'Brien helps.

Rank outsider and seemingly a lost cause, but perhaps the fact he's back for another season suggests there's hope. I think if he's going to win again it could be first-up from a long break and a freshen-up.
