2:20 Catterick Tips

Taken a while to get going this season but best effort so far when 2nd at Musselburgh last week. Lurking on a dangerous mark so should run very well.

Ideal Guest is a 6-year-old gelding trained by Edward Bethell. He runs off a handicap mark of 59. He is 5/27 wins on turf, boasting a good win strike rate and has posted a career-high RPR of 79, so clearly well handicapped. He is ground versatile and won over today's trip and good ground at Ascot. His last win came off a mark of 67, so he sits some 8lb below his last winning mark. Edward Bethell also has a good record with horses in the top three in the betting, boasting a 40% win strike rate since 2021, and has form figures at the track of 2-1-3-3-1-1-1-2-1-1 with his last 10 runners at Catterick. If his charge is in the top three in the market, and overall he is 6/13 wins with 5 coming from his last 6 runners. Ideal Guest has to be respected and is my short-priced banker of the day.

Langholm has finished in and around the places in the last 3 starts since their mark continues to fall. One to watch.

Obee Jo is in stall number 4, trained by Tim Easterby and ridden by Amie Waugh. This seasoned 9-year-old boasts solid course and distance credentials with 3 wins here and often runs well on good ground. Was slowly away when fourth at Carlisle over a mile last time, but the drop back to 7f is a plus and his mark of 51 is now just 1lb above his last winning rating. The draw is fine and this is his level. From a stable with a strong course record, he has a good chance if breaking on terms. The pace should be solid.

Ran two races already this month, and in those races seems to be improving. Nicely placed in this race by his trainer, comes in nicely at the weights, and will prove to be a tough customer.

Queens Road Revue saves her best form for the summer. She won off 55 in July last year and later off 57 in August. Her mark was too high after that and she hasn't shown much since. She must be fit enough and could bounce back today off 56.

Could make a case for this whole field, but the price of Golden Prosperity looks too big not to have interest. Last run can be ignored due to encountering trouble in running, but the 2 runs before that were a 1-length defeat after a win. This step up to 7f may play to strengths.

Way off the last three runs, but GOING UNDERGROUND gave a good account on seasonal debut at Wetherby and is lighter in the weights now. Has made a total hash of the start the last twice but if correcting that he could get involved at a big price. We've got to be very forgiving for those recent outings though.
