The Chris Appleby-trained, William Buik-ridden Victory Queen won on her debut in a Class 2 Maiden at HQ, beating the Andrew Balding-trained Zgharta by 1/2 length. It was a workmanlike performance after a slow start but got the job done. She will have benefited from that run 15 days ago. Looks the one to beat.

Top stable, 200,000 gns foal, backed into joint favorite on its debut run at last season's Doncaster St. Leger meeting, finishing a solid 2nd, beaten 1.25 lengths by Whirl. Won a Group 3 next time out. This one could make up into a top-class 3-year-old this season. Worth a bet.

Breckenbrough gets a 3 kg pull from the previous winners, matched their 79 RPR on debut despite racing green, and clocked the day's quickest last-3f. Balding's three-year-old strike rate is 18%, the ground has tightened to suit Kingman stock, and an honest pace should tee up her late surge.

The booking of Holly Doyle for this one attracted my attention. She was a short price on debut but finished fourth, so needs to improve but is with the right yard.

This newcomer is the bottom weight in this Fillies' Novices' Stakes, and I fancy she will surprise a few over the mile. Decent pedigree and a good jockey booking in Billy Loughnane. I am siding with Princess Rascal excelling.
