What is the Wooden Legacy ?
The Wooden Legacy is an invitational men's college basketball tournament held annually, the 2023 Wooden Legacy took place at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. The tournament is named after former UCLA Bruins coach John Wooden who led the Bruins to 10 National Championships in 12 seasons between 1964 and 1975.
The tournament was formed in 2013 as a result of a merger and up until 2016 the games were played at the Titan Gym in Cal State Fullerton in addition to the Honda Center, Anaheim. Between 2017 and 2019, the Titan Gym was the sole venue for games prior to handing over the mantle to the Anaheim Arena in 2021. There was no tournament in 2020 due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
Four teams now compete in the tournament which is held over two days, the semi finals takes place on Day 1 with the Final and 3rd Place game taking place on Day 2. From 2013 to 2019, the Wooden Legacy was a 12 team bracket style format and was scheduled to begin it's current 4 team bracket in 2020 however with the Covid cancellation the new format was delayed until the 2021 tournament.
