With better graphics than the original game, Enhancer Cells award high-value inmate symbols, wilds, xWays or Razor Split Wilds for more ways to win and wild reels that are 10-high.
With Split Wilds, the Green Mile Spins allows you to gamble for more starting Jumping Wilds or even to win the game’s max win. Jumping Wild multipliers also double when affected by Razor Split Wilds. Offering 200,000 x bet max wins, the original game offers 150,000 x bet wins. San Quentin 2: Death Row is also by far the most volatile slot game Nolimit City has ever produced.

There is a total of 11 bonus features including wild multipliers, xSplit symbols and exploding xBomb Wild Multipliers.
The action focuses on the Lucky Wagon Spins feature where Nolimit City has added more enhancers and persistent features which can award 65,000 x bet max wins. By comparison, the original game comes with 60,000 x bet payouts.
9. Jammin’ Jars 2 (Push Gaming)

- RTP: 96.4%

Wild Jar multipliers can increase up to 43x when part of a win and there are Instant Prize symbols up to 1,000 x bet. With Fruit Blasts and free spins, Gold Vinyl records are collected to fill the Giga Jar which brings in the Giga Jar feature where you get spins with Instant Prize symbols.
With a 96.4% RTP rate and 50,000 x bet max wins, Jammin’ Jars 2 offers more than double the win potential of its predecessor. I think it's much better than the first game despite many players not sharing my views.
- Extremely Speedy Withdrawals
- Microgaming, NetEnt, BTG and other huge slot providers
- Fantastic Progressive Slot Selection

Other Slot Sequels
By contrast, slot studios have released slot sequels that don’t quite live up to the original game. Despite these sequels offering higher RTP rates, bigger max win potential and new/innovative bonus features, it doesn’t hit as the original did.
Below, you’ll find a few slot sequels which are good slot games in their own right but don't match up to the much-loved original.
1. Immortal Romance 2 (Stormcraft Studios)

- RTP: 96.3%
- Max Win: 15,000x
- Volatility: High
- Stakes: 10p to £20
- Release Date: 28 May 2024
The original Immortal Romance is one of the most iconic slot games ever made as it was ahead of its time in terms of theme, soundtrack and bonus features. Nearly 13 years later, Immortal Romance 2 was released. With 5 reels and 243 ways to win, there is a Bloodline Bar which unlocks new music tracks and backgrounds.
With Rolling Wilds, Wild Multipliers and a Wild Desire feature with an extra row and up to 5 wild reels with multipliers, there is a Jackpot Wheel where you can win character jackpots. You can expect 4 free spins features with various extras like in the original game.
Immortal Romance 2 comes with 15,000 x bet max wins: this is higher than the 12,150 x bet offered in the original game. However, the RTP rate is a lot lower (96.3% vs 96.86%). Overall, Immortal Romance 2 is a good slot game but there is not enough differentiation to make it a worthy successor in my opinion.
2. Sweet Bonanza 1000 (Pragmatic Play)

- RTP: 96.53%
- Max Win: 25,000x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 20p to £100
- Release Date: 3 June 2024
With Sweet Bonanza being such a popular game, it was only natural that Pragmatic Play released Sweet Bonanza 1000. Set in the same sugary wonderland as its predecessor, it’s played on a 6x5 grid with Scatter Pays. Tumbles lead to continuous wins but it’s all about the Free Spins feature.
Here, look out for Rainbow Bomb Multipliers which are worth up to 1000x! With unlimited retriggers also available, Sweet Bonanza 1000 comes with a 96.53% RTP rate and 25,000 x bet max wins.
By comparison, the original game has a 96.49% RTP rate and 21,175 x bet top wins. Whilst Sweet Bonanza 1000 is bigger and better, the differences are marginal. Pragmatic Play could have taken it to a new level with much bigger win potential or the addition of new or more bonus features.
3. Max Megaways 2 (Big Time Gaming)

- RTP: 96.64%
- Max Win: 147,620x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 20p to £6
- Release Date: 26 July 2023
With a spy/space theme, Max Megaways 2 is a 6 reel game with up to 117,649 ways to win. With 10 bonus features, it comes with Reactions, 4 randomly-triggered base game extras and 2 free spins features with Power-Ups. The Power-Ups offer a higher starting multiplier, double multiplier rises, retriggers, symbol to wild transformations and a minimum of 15,625 ways to win.
With a 96.64% RTP rate and 147,620 x bet max wins, Max Megaways 2 tops the original in all aspects. However, the original Max Megaways comes with 139,200 x bet payouts, just as many bonus features and a better James Bond/Austin Powers theme.
4. Danger High Voltage 2 (Big Time Gaming)

- RTP: 96.64%
- Max Win: 52,980x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 20p to £15
- Release Date: 23 October 2024
With 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win, Danger High Voltage 2 from Big Time Gaming was released more than 7 years after the original. This slot sequel uses the Megadozer mechanic which can award scatters, wilds and multiplier wilds. With 2 free spins features, they come with persistent wilds and wilds with a higher multiplier.
Boasting a 96.64% RTP rate and 52,950 x bet max wins, Danger High Voltage 2 is technically a better slot game than Danger High Voltage. That said, the original is a cult favourite that remains one of the most popular slot games of all time.
5. Royal Potato 2 (Print Studios)

- RTP: 96.26%
- Max Win: 40,000x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 20p to £25
- Release Date: 28 September 2023
Celebrating the world of potatoes, Royal Potato 2 has 5 reels and 30 paylines. This slot sequel offers many of the bonus features from the original game including the popular SuperSpinners. When winning combinations pass through them, they are subject to the SuperSpinner multipliers.
In the Free Spins feature, there is a new Potato Sack feature which comes with 4 different modifiers including 10x SuperSpinner multipliers, extra free spins, synchronised reels and symbol activations. With a 96.26% RTP rate and 40,000 x bet max wins, the first outing comes with 30,000 x bet wins. Despite the sequel being a tad better, it doesn't do enough to supersede its predecessor.
6. Legacy of Dead (Play ‘n GO)

- RTP: 96.58%
- Max Win: 5,000x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 10p to £100
- Release Date: 2 January 2020
Set in ancient Egypt, Legacy of Dead has 5 reels and 10 paylines. Playable from 10p per spin on all devices, it’s all about the Free Spins feature where you start with 8 free spins and 1 special expanding symbol. Each retrigger awards additional free spins but an extra special expanding symbol is added. This can lead to infinite extra free spins and 9 special expanding symbols in play.
With a 96.58% RTP rate and 5,000 x bet max wins, Legacy of Dead is a classic ‘Book of’ slot with a twist. Play ‘n GO released this after Book of Dead: with a 96.21% RTP rate and 5,000 x bet wins, it only offers 1 special expanding symbol during the feature.
That said, Book of Dead is probably the most popular slot game of all time which no sequel can top. It’s also subject to various no wager free spins offers maintaining its position at the top of the slots pyramid.
7. Dreadworks (Print Studios)

- RTP: 96.08%
- Max Win: 20,000x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 10p to £50
- Release Date: 10 October 2024
Dreadworks is a horror-themed slot with 5 reels and 26 paylines. This truly terrifying game sees you join remnants of forgotten toys in a toy factory. With SuperSpinner multipliers, Jack-in-the-Box Wilds add their values to SuperSpinners as well as mystery symbols. In the Big Jack Bonus, low-value symbols are removed from the reels and extra free spins can be won. If you see Big Jack, he can occupy up to 5 reels on each free spin.
With a 96.08% RTP rate and 20,000 x bet max wins, Dreadworks is the slot sequel to Darkness. Equally scary, it comes with mystery symbols instead of wilds and Giant Symbols instead of Jack-in-the-Box Wilds. Both games offer the same max win potential too.
8. Pond of Plinko (Print Studios)

- RTP: 96.1%
- Max Win: 30,000x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 10p to £50
- Release Date: 10 December 2024
The third game in the series, Pond of Plinko has 5 reels and 20 paylines. Set in a water-based wintery world, there is a randomly-activated River Prize feature in the base game which can lead to 10,000 x bet max wins. The changes have been made in the Plinko Bonus feature where you play the Enhancer Game first to add up to 6 modifiers in the main feature. Once in the main part, hit the bumpers to move through the levels for more drops (up to 256 in stage 9).
With a 96.1% RTP rate and 30,000 x bet max wins, it offers double the win potential of Pine of Plinko Dream Drop and 1.5 times higher than Pine of Plinko 2.
9. Cleopatra 2 (IGT)

- RTP: 95.88%
- Max Win: 50,000x
- Volatility: Medium to High
- Stakes: 20p to £2,000
- Release Date: 14 June 2014
The follow-up to the iconic land-based favourite, Cleopatra 2 is from IGT and has 5 reels and 20 paylines. Set in ancient Egypt, there is a Cleo 2 Wild symbol that doubles payouts when part of a winning combination. In the Free Spins Bonus feature, you begin with up to 20 free spins. With the multiplier beginning at 1x, the multiplier increases by 1 with each free spin.
There are retriggers available with up to 50 free spins possible: this means up to a 50x multiplier and 50,000 x bet max wins. This is 5 times the win potential of the original game.
10. Bonanza Falls (Big Time Gaming)

- RTP: 96.51%
- Max Win: 93,540x
- Volatility: Very High
- Stakes: 20p to £10
- Release Date: 11 December 2023
Released 7 years after the iconic Bonanza Megaways slot, Bonanza Falls has 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win. Playable from 20p per spin, it utilises the same graphics and soundtrack as the original release. In terms of bonus features, there are still the same Reactions for successive wins.
The main difference comes in the Megadozer Free Spins feature where you’ll see a Tipping Point-style Megadozer above the reels. Containing Bonus Coins that drop onto the reels, they award win multiplier increases, extra free spins, wild multipliers up to 5x and symbol multipliers up to 10x.
Bonanza Falls has a 96.51% RTP rate with 93,540 x bet max wins. Bonanza Megaways, in contrast, has a 96% RTP rate and 26,000 x bet max wins.
Summary
With thousands of slot games to play, slot studios inevitably create sequels and series to appeal to players. The best slot series will see providers build on the original release going bigger and better each time.
Whilst some studios change the theme, backstory, bonus features and win potential, original slot games tend to be seen more favourably by players for some reason. Most sequels don’t live up to the appeal of the original games and serve as a vehicle to get fans to carry on playing a similar game.
A case in point is the Big Bass series by Pragmatic Play. Whilst there have been improvements on the original Big Bass Bonanza slot, the newer games are pretty much clones of earlier versions but with a different theme (such as Halloween or Christmas).
On the other hand, Playtech has an Age of the Gods slot series which has over 30 games. My favourite is Age of the Gods which comes with 4 free spins features and 50,000 x bet max wins. Other games in the series feature completely different ancient Greek gods, different bonus features and varying max win potential. However, all games give you the chance to win 4 progressive jackpots randomly.
