The Mental 2 slot begins with 5 reels and 108 ways to win in a 3x2x3x2x3 formation. Winning combinations are created when 3 or more matching symbols appear, on successive reels, from left to right and in any reel position. Naturally, just the highest payout per way to win is won.

With a horror theme, the Mental 2 slot is the sequel to Mental (released in August 2021). This time around, the focus on a murderous, deranged daughter who butchered his parents. As you fire up the game, you’ll hear a creepy piano play you in with a warning stating:

If that doesn’t set the scene, I don’t know what does. Anyway, using the same sepia-tone as it’s predecessor, you head inside a mental asylum which looks virtually identical to the setting in the original slot. The soundtrack is piano-based which is quite intense and had me on the edge of my seat the first time I fired up the game. You’ll also hear screams from the patients and see the lights flicker. This isn’t for the faint of heart.

On the reels, there are 5 low-value skeleton symbols (feet, spines, torsos, babies and skulls) as well as 5 higher-value patient symbols. The highest-paying symbol awards 2.5 times your total bet for 5 in combination.

Mental 2 also benefits from several special symbols: there are regular Wilds, xSplit, xNudge Wilds and xWays which are brought into play by the Enhancer Cells (more on this below). Other symbols include the xHole, xMental, Disembodied Scatter and Cognitive Scatter.

Mental 2 Mobile

As terrifying as Mental 2 is, you can ‘enjoy’ the game on mobile, desktop and tablet devices. The Mental 2 slot has 13 bonus features. With much of the gameplay similar to that in the original game, Nolimit City has added Fire Reels, Dead Patient symbols, xHole and xMental mechanics as well as also offering 3 free spins features where everything combines for an unrivalled and terrifying experience.

Fire Frames & Fire Reels

Randomly, between 1 and 13 positions on the reels may transform into a Fire Frame. Any symbols landing inside a Fire Frame will split into 2 parts, giving you more ways to win.

Furthermore, between 1 and 5 reels may turn into a Fire Reel randomly in the base game. All symbols landing in a Fire Reel will split into 3 parts.

Dead Patients

The Dead Patients feature is triggered when 2 or more Dead Patient symbols land on the reels. It then reveals of the patient symbols with a multiplier ranging between 5x and 9999x.

Enhancer Cells

Below reels 2, 3 and 4 (the 3 central reels), you will see Enhancer Reels. The more Fire Frames that appear on the reels, the more Enhancer Cells are activated:

• 4 Fire Frames: Reel 2 Enhancer Cell activated
• 6 Fire Frames: Reel 2 and 4 Enhancer Cells activated
• 8 Fire Frames: All 3 Enhancer Cells are activated (reels 2, 3 and 4)

For reference, a Fire Reel is considered as 2 or 3 Fire Frames which makes it easier to activate Enhancer Cells. Now, every Enhancer Cell can reveal 1 of the following symbols:

• Skull Wild: regular wild symbol that substitutes for paying symbols.
• xSplit: This splits 1 symbol on each of the other reels which then doubles the number of those numbers. It then splits itself into 2 Skull Wilds.
• xNudge Wild: Nudges to be fully visible, each nudge increases the win multiplier by 1. Several wild multipliers see values added together. If an xNudge Wild is split by an xSplit, the multiplier on the xNudge Wild also rises by 1.
• Patient: Reveal 1 of the 5 patient symbols.
• xWays: Reveal 3 paying symbols of the same type which then expands the reel height. If multiple xWays symbols are revealed, they all reveal the same symbol.

xHole

Mental 2 comes with an xHole feature which is activated when the xHole symbol lands inside a Fire Frame or Fire Reel on the second position on reel 3.

Paying symbols and Skull Wilds are then drawn from the reels and scatted to random positions with their current sizes multiplied by 2, 4 or 8 (giving you more ways to win). If it pulls into an xNudge Wild, the win multiplier value is subject to a 2x, 4x or 8x multiplier. After all this happens, the xHole symbol transforms into a Skull Wild.

xMental

Look out for an xMental symbol landing within a Fire Frame or Fire Reel as this activates the new xMental feature. You’ll be rewarded with a free spin with the following extras:

• All reel positions get Fire Frames
• Enhancers reveal xWays, xNudge Wild or xSplit symbols
• Change of triggering the xHole feature

Mental Transform

Then you have the Mental Transform feature: it’s triggered by landing a Disembodied Scatter symbol on reel 2 or 4. The Disembodied Scatter transforms into an xWays, xSplit, Dead Patient, Skull Wild or patient symbol.

Scatters

Mental 2 comes with 2 different scatter symbols. The Cognitive Scatter symbol will only land on reels 1, 3 and 5 during a base game spin whilst Disembodied Scatter symbols land on reels 2 or 4. Here is what they can award:

If you land a scatter inside a Fire Frame, it awards 1 extra free spin. Landing a scatter within a Fire Reel gives you 2 extra free spins.

Bloodletting Spins

In the Bloodletting Spins feature, Fire Frames and Fire Reels remain sticky (stuck in position) throughout the feature. If you land 1 Disembodied Scatter symbol, you will upgrade the remaining free spins to Surgery Spins with 1 more free spin. Landing 2 Disembodied Scatter symbols will upgrade the free spins to ExperiMENTAL Spins with 2 additional free spins.

Surgery Spins

As well as all the extras in the Bloodletting Spins, the Surgery Spins feature sees Disembodied Scatter symbols being sticky to trigger the Mental Transform feature on every free spin.

This feature also comes with a Dead Multiplier. The highest multiplier from every Dead Patient symbol is collected with it’s ‘Count’. The Dead Multiplier is transferred to their respective Patient symbols based on the ‘Count’ when a new collected Patient symbol appears on the reels. Every time a Dead Multiplier is transferred, the ‘Count’ decreases by 1. However, the Dead Multiplier doesn’t transfer to a symbol revealed by the Dead Patient symbol.

Finally, landing a new Disembodied Scatter upgrades the remaining free spins to ExperiMENTAL Spins with 1 additional free spin.

ExperiMENTAL Spins

In addition to the extras in the Surgery Spins, both Disembodied Scatter symbols are sticky and trigger the Mental Transform feature for every free spin during the ExperiMENTAL Spins feature.

The Dead Multiplier count for Patient symbols doesn’t decrease after transferring to a Patient symbol. The multiplier only rises with new Dead Patient symbols revealed.

Nolimit Booster

As with other Nolimit City slot games, Mental 2 comes with 4 Nolimit Booster options:

With the original Mental game such a great title, Nolimit City were under pressure to deliver with the Mental 2 slot. On the surface, it may look almost identical visually but NLC has made it darker, more sinister and a lot more terrifying. I must say that the soundtrack starts off with a creepy piano tune which then goes into overdrive with a heavy metal sound that really brings the horror to life.

Using similar mechanics and bonus features, Nolimit City has introduced Fire Reels and Dead Patient symbols. Using the xHole feature first seen in Kenneth Must Die, there is a brand-new xMental feature where all positions can reveal Fire Frames, Enhancers with xWays, xNudge Wild or xSplit symbols or an xHole feature trigger.

The action intensifies in the 3 free spins features where all mechanics and features can pop off for max wins of 99,999 times your total bet. This is 1.5 times higher than in the original game too.
