Using high-definition graphics, Push has upgraded the visuals from the original with a bigger grid as well as meaner-looking sharks. With a mechanical/robotic feel to the shark characters, the underwater scene is filled with coral and naval mines that are tied to the ocean floor by anchors presumably. You’ll also see starfish, clown fish and planets.

The soundtrack is intense and dramatic and reminds me of Steven Spielberg’s classic Jaws film as you spin the reels. You’ll notice the symbols are big and clear and really stand out against the pleasant backdrop.

On the reels, low-value symbols include anchors, compasses, periscopes and diving helmets. Then you have blue, green, pink and orange sharks who each sport their own headgear. Best paying is the orange shark symbol which awards 7.5 times your total bet for 5 across any payline.

Then you have the Great White Shark Wild symbol which has a mechanical and somewhat robotic feel. Substituting for all other paying symbols, 3, 4 or 5 wilds in combination pays 1, 4 or 12.5 times your total bet respectively. Razor Returns offers 6 bonus features. There are Mystery symbols then trigger the Nudge & Reveal feature which changes them into the same paying symbol, Great White Wilds or Golden Sharks. The latter see them reveal instant prizes up to 5,000 x bet, multipliers up to 10x, scatters, Collector and new Converter symbols. Nudge & Reveal

The seaweed symbol is the game’s Mystery symbol. It appears on all 5 reels in stacks of 5. Landing in both the base game and Free Spins feature, the Nudge & Reveal feature is triggered. The Mystery symbols then transform into:

• Great White Wild
• or Golden Shark

If you get a win with the paying symbol, the standard payouts apply. On the next spin, Mystery symbols nudge down their reels 1 row at a time until they disappear from the reels.

Razor Reveal 

In the case that Mystery symbols transform into Golden Sharks, the Razor Reveal feature will be activated. Every Golden Shark symbol spins to reveal one of the following symbols:

• Instant Prize: These symbols contain bet multiplier prizes worth between 1 and 5,000 times your total bet.
• Multiplier: These symbols boost the value of Instant Prize and Collector symbols with a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x.
• Collector: These symbols collect the value of all Instant Prize symbols and transform themselves into Instant Prize symbols. Once collected, all Instant Prize symbols disappear from the reels. The newly vacated positions spin through to award more prizes/symbols.
• Converter: These symbols spin through paying symbols present on the reels. 1 is randomly chosen with all instances transforming into Golden Shark symbols. This ensures the Razor Reveal feature continues for more prizes.
• Torpedo Scatter: 3 or more Torpedo Scatter symbols will trigger the Free Spins feature with a 1x, 5x or 25x starting multiplier (more details below).

Free Spins

The Razor Returns slot comes with a Free Spins feature. It’s triggered by landing 3 or more Torpedo Scatter symbols anywhere on the reels during the base game and/or Razor Reveal feature. The number of scatters will see you start with a different starting multiplier:

• 3 Torpedo Scatters: 1x starting multiplier
• 4 Torpedo Scatters: 5x starting multiplier
• 5 Torpedo Scatters: 25x starting multiplier

Once in, you are taken deeper into the ocean with the scene much darker. The soundtrack is more intense and eerie adding to the excitement. You’ll see a shipwreck at the bottom of the ocean too.

You’ll begin with Mystery symbols filling reels 2 and 4. These nudge down 1 row at a time with every free spin. Winning combinations are subject to the feature’s active multiplier which increases with each nudge. With new Mystery symbols landing, the feature continues until all Mystery symbols have fallen off the bottom of the reels.

To help you keep playing, there is a Nudge Up symbol that can land. Mystery symbols nudge up when they appear which gives you more free spins effectively.

The Bonus Buy feature is available to players located outside the United Kingdom. It allows you to buy your way into the Free Spins feature (with 4 options) as well as triggering the Razor Reveal feature. The options vary between 106 and 550 times your total bet:

The Razor Returns slot had a lot to live up to as the original Razor Shark game is one of Push Gaming’s flagship titles. With better graphics and a more immersive experience, everything is bigger and better in my opinion. There’s an extra row of symbols and the high-definition visuals are simply stunning.

With more going on in terms of bonus features, the Razor Reveal feature has been enhanced significantly. The Instant Prize symbols can award bet multiplier prizes up to 5,000 times your total bet (this is double what’s on offer in Razor Shark).

 With new Collector and Converter symbols, you get the chance to win more prizes and land Golden Sharks which in turn sees you play on. The Golden Sharks are like the Golden Bamboo symbols in Push Gaming’s Big Bamboo slot.

I also like how the Free Spins feature gives you the possibility of beginning with a 5x or 25 starting multiplier by triggering with 4 or 5 Torpedo Scatters respectively. You also have the addition of the Nudge Up symbol which keeps Mystery symbols on the reels for longer.

The optional Push Bet feature will set you back 10% more per spin but you have a 1.437 times higher chance of winning the 100,000 times bet max win available. This is higher than the 85,475 times bet available in Razor Shark too. The RTP of 96.55% is lower than the 96.7% RTP rate in the original game though.

In conclusion, the Razor Returns slot is a superb sequel which blows the original game out of the water in my opinion. Bigger, meaner and with higher win potential, Push Gaming has done a phenomenal job of making it one of the best slot games around.
