Bookies now make it 9/1 that GB News stops broadcasting in 2023 or 2024
Bookies are offering odds on the future of GB News following recent controversy on the channel with the sacking of Lawrence Fox after his rant against a female journalist.
GB News said in a statement a fortnight ago that they had ended their employment relationship with Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson following internal investigations.
Back towards the end of 2022, Smarkets opened the market of when GB News would stop broadcasting with 2023 or 2024 given odds of 9/5 back then.
Fast forward 12 months later though and the betting market is now out to 9/1 for the channel to stop broadcasting in 2023 or 2024.
When will GB News stop broadcasting? | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
2023 or 2024 | 9/1 | 10.0% |
2025 or Later | 2/5 | 71.4% |
The channel's linear ratings aren't rivalling BBC News or Sky News with recent reports from the Economist saying that the channel reaches around 600,000 people a day compared to 2.4m for BBC News and 1.4m for Sky News.
What the expert says...
It's now 2/5 that it's 2025 or later that GB News ends
Fans of GB News can breathe a sigh of relief if the betting odds are to be believed with a 71% chance of the channel staying broadcasting until 2025 at least.
2025 or later is currently 2/5 to be the date that GB News stops broadcasting with the recent Laurence Fox situation not changing the odds at all.
GB News clearly has a core audience of viewers and as long as they stick by the channel it's likely that it will continue to air.
Further controversy for the channel in recent months
Dan Wootton has been at the forefront of a lot of controversy for the GB News channel in recent months and was suspended for his role in the Laurence Fox situation.
Since he was suspended there have been no further updates but recent suggestions look like GB News will be axed from the channel with legal issues currently holding it up.
Byline Times author Tom Latchem posted on X earlier this week that Wootton will move up north to Scotland for the next stage of his career.Tom Latchem posted on X earlier this week
