Bookmakers are now offering odds on who will play some of the biggest characters in the new HBO Harry Potter series with one of those Hogwarts teacher Professor Minerva McGonagall.
Minerva McGonagall was played by the late great Dame Maggie Smith, who sadly passed away at the age of 89 in September, and she is a key figure in the Harry Potter universe.
Whoever steps in for this role has massive shoes to fill and it may well take a big name to play McGonagall in the new series with the latest market having a whole host of popular figures in there.
American actress Angela Bassett is the 3/1 favourite to play Professor McGonagall with those betting odds suggesting a 25% chance that she gets the role.
British actress Helen Mirren follows in the betting market alongside Lesley Manville with those two joint second favourites at 4/1 behind Bassett.

Driver sits at 3/1 to play Snape with the role a massive one in the Harry Potter franchise with the character playing a key part in Potter's story across the books.
The American actor's similarities in terms of looks to Snape, with the same hairstyle as the character, has seen many Potter fans all the years call for him to portray the role if there was ever a time to do so.
With HBO now creating this series it looks like it could well happen now with the latest odds putting him as the firm favourite in the betting odds to star as the Hogwarts professor.

Harry Potter series set to air on HBO in 2026
HBO Harry Potter's series have now put out a casting call for their Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger with the wheels now in motion around the series.
The casting call states that the actors must be between the ages of 9 and 11 in April next year which points towards production on the show starting around that time.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has previously said that the show will air in 2026 and that could well be the case with the latter stages of that year currently set for release.
CEO and Chairman of HBO and Max Content Casey Bloys has also told reporters that he sees the series airing on their platform at the end of 2026 or even in 2027.
