Band Aid's 40-year anniversary release straight in as favourite for Christmas Number One
There's a new contender in the betting odds for this year's Christmas Number One with Band Aid's 40-year anniversary release of Do They Know It's Christmas? storming into the market.
UK Betting Sites have been offering odds on the race for Christmas Number One with the usual candidates Wham! and Mariah Carey both sharing favouritism in the market as recently as last week.
That's now all changed though with the announcement that Sir Bob Geldof, Midge Ure and Trevor Horn will release their 40th anniversary special of Band Aid.
Bet365's latest odds has installed them as the odds-on favourites at 1/2 to hit the top spot on Christmas Day this year.

What the expert says...
Tom Grennan's Amazon Music Original set to be a big contender
Tom Grennan sits at 8/1 in the latest market this for this year's Xmas Number One and he's one of several big names that feature in the betting.
Grennan has officially entered the race this year with his new song 'It Can't Be Christmas' which is an Amazon Music Original.
This is big news for Grennan's chances of top spot with the thousands of houses around the country with Amazon's Alexa devices asking for Christmas songs set to be fed his song first.
That worked well for Sam Ryder last year with his own Amazon Original song You're Christmas To Me peaking at Number 2 thanks to the Alexa playlists.

Betting specials also look at what will be the most watched show on Christmas Day this year with Gavin and Stacey now into clear favourite ahead of its final ever episode.
The hit BBC comedy will return for a final special on Christmas Day five years on from the last special of the show which aired back on 25 December 2019.
Odds on the show being most viewed on Christmas Day have been slashed with the King's Speech drifting after the success last time Gavin and Stacey aired.
James Corden and Ruth Jones show had more than 11m linear viewers in 2019 and anywhere near that figure will see it top the overall list once again.
Christmas Day Most Watched Show 2024 | Odds* | Probability |
