Ronnie O'Sullivan is the latest market mover to win the Sports Personality of the Year award
Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan has moved into 16/1 to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award after his UK Championship victory at the start of December.
Despite his popularity in Snooker, O'Sullivan has never won the SPOTY award and hasn't even been on the podium despite previously being nominated back in 2022.
Steve Davis is the only Snooker player that has won the award previously back in 1988 and it's a big shock that someone so popular as O'Sullivan hasn't won it in his career.
His odds have now shortened into 16/1 with bookmakers to win the award from 80/1 last month as OLBG look at the full list of potential contenders this year with nominees due imminently.
William Hill have shortened Mary Earps into 2/9 to win the prestigious award this year with the latest odds suggesting there's an 81% chance she wins.
2023 Sports Personality of the Year Winner | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Mary Earps | 2/9 | 81.8% |
Stuart Broad | 6/1 | 14.3% |
Ronnie O'Sullivan | 16/1 | 5.9% |
Katarina Johnson-Thompson | 16/1 | 5.9% |
Frankie Dettori | 25/1 | 3.8% |
What the expert says..
Mary Earps remains the heavy favourite to win the award later this month
England Lionesses goalkeeper Mary Earps is the clear favourite in the betting market to win the Sports Personality of the Year award this month.
Earps was England's best player in their World Cup campaign earlier this year where she saved a penalty in England's 1-0 defeat against Spain in the final.
The goalkeeper though made a big mistake against the Netherlands at Wembley at the start of the month which could well be on the minds of voters.
Stuart Broad second favourite in the betting market after previously being favourite
Former England cricketer Stuart Broad remains second favourite to win the SPOTY award following his retirement from all forms of Cricket earlier this year.
Broad took the final wicket of the 2023 Ashes test series to tie things up in a 2-2 draw after announcing that he would be retiring the day before.
The Englishman's career could play a big part in him winning the Sports Personality of the Year award but the latest odds have now seen him drift right out to 6/1 to win now.
OLBG have looked at the probabilities for the award with the latest betting odds suggesting there's now just a 14% chance that Broad wins.
