Four writers share favouritism for the 2025 Nobel Literature Prize
The 2025 Nobel Literature Prize already has odds available on betting sites with the 2024 prize winner revealed earlier this month and some recognisable names appear in the market once again.
Four authors sit as joint favourites in the betting market at 8/1 with Anne Carson, Can Xue, Haruki Murakami and Mirceau Catarescu all given the same chances of winning.
Those odds suggest an implied probability of 11.1% that either of those four are crowned winners with next year's award not being announced until October.
The same names usually feature in the betting market for the Nobel Literature Prize which is given to an author who, according to the words of Alfred Nobel, has excelled ""in the field of literature, produced the most outstanding work in an idealistic direction".

South Korean author Han Kang crowned winner of the 2024 prize
53-year-old South Korean novelist Han Kang was awarded the 2024 Nobel Literature Prize for her āintense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human lifeā.
Han Kang's win made her the first South Korean author and 18th woman to win the Nobel Literature Prize and some online bookstores in the country went down following the announcement.
The author will officially be presented with the Nobel Prize in December when the Nobel show officially takes place.

Can Xu once again features in the betting odds
Can Xu is a frequent contender in the betting odds for the Nobel Literature Prize and it's the same again this year with bookies putting her at 8/1 to win the award.
Deng Xiaohua, better known by her pen name Can Xue, had been favourite for the 2023 and 2024 Nobel Literature Prize but the eventual winner Kang didn't feature in the odds.
The 2025 Prize market sees Xue joint favourite in the betting market once again with the latest odds giving an implied probability of 11.1% that she wins the award.
