The SAG Awards

  • The Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) held in February are often a very good indicator of Oscar success.

  • Kenneth Branagh's Belfast starring Jamie Dornan and Dame Judi Dench is now clear fav at 4/5 with the best betting sites.

  • CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) is the big mover in the SAG odds from an early 5/1 into 5/2 second favourite, it now looks like the main rival to Belfast.

  • Don't Look Up the satirical movie from Netflix starring Leonardo  Di Caprio and Jennifer Lawrence was generally well-received and deserves its place in the betting

  • Steven Spielberg's West Side Story was initially odds on with all the bookmaker's sites to win The Best Film Ensemble, however, it was not nominated!!

The SAG awards were created in 1952 and celebrate performances in the movies and in television.

Members of the Screen Actors Guild nominate and vote for their favourite in 13 categories.

SAG Award Nominations will take place on the 12th January 2022, with the Awards show scheduled for the 27th February 2022.

Winners receive a bronze statue as pictured below.

It is worth noting the SAG results in all categories, as you can be sure that the bookmakers will in their Oscar betting odds.

  • Outstanding Performance By A Male Actor In A Leading Role
  • Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role
  • Outstanding Performance By A Male Actor In A Supporting Role
  • Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor In A Leading Role

Shrewd bettors could place bets on the Oscars before the SAG awards if they have a strong conviction on a particular category, as a win at an award ceremony or film festival generally alerts the odds compilers and they cut the odds.

As an example, last year Nomadland and actress Frances McDormand who starred as the van living nomad were available at much bigger prices before the award season, (Golden Globes, BAFTA, Peoples Choice, SAG, Venice Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival etc).
