A big month of Flat racing with the Derby, Oaks and Royal Ascot. It looks like we're going to make it a 5th successive winning month in May and we currently sit at +£164.64 for the year which is £70 LSP up on this point last year.
AIDEN O'BRIEN (ALL GB) Not the most original but gave us massive profits last June and looks to have a strong team to send to Epsom and Ascot.
2012 5/29 17% +£18.14
2013 6/33 18% +£13.55
2014 3/32 9% (£16.72)
2015 6/24 25% +£62.03
2016 8/35 23% +£35.05
Our own figures last year were +£44.00. Remember just his GB runners not Irish.
SIR MICHAEL STOUTE (ALL) A former blog favourite but hasn't appeared much recently, has a nice set of figure for June.
2013 9/56 16% (£15.22)
2014 9/48 19% (£16.95)
2015 16/62 26% +£ 8.51
2016 17/64 27% +£43.98
As always more recent figures are more important but with 9 winners in 2013 and 2014 BOG would almost definitely made it a single figure loss.
MARK JOHNSTON (2yo's) Another blog favourite, just his 2yo's this month.
2013 5/50 10% (£29.42)
2014 12/35 34% +£35.29
2015 16/65 25% (£ 9.29)
2016 17/61 28% +£ 6.45
Fantastic strike rate and the amount of winners mean we would have most likely made a profit in 2015 and the profit would be nearer +£20 last year with the BOG extras.
WILLIAM HAGGAS (3yo's) Newmarket trainer who has become a regular in recent years. Just his 3yo's this month.
2013 12/45 27% (£ 7.36)
2014 15/47 32% +£16.93
2015 10/35 29% +£ 1.05
2016 10/43 23% (£ 5.47)
A reoccurring theme but again 10+ winners will probably yield +£10 extra LSP with BOG which turns these figures from decent to great.
CHARLIE APPLEBY (2yo's) Looks to be taking over from Suroor as Godolphin's no.1 trainer in this country.
2014 5/24 21% (£12.57)
2015 3/19 16% +£11.50
2016 4/10 40% +£ 1.40
The above figures are decent in there own right, he comes into June with 7 of his last 11 2yo's being winners.
DAVID SIMCOCK (ALL) Back from last years June blog where he gave a nice profit with just his 3yo+ runners, however he was 3/4 with his 2yo's last June so we have to include them this time around.
2013 13/63 21% +£15.75
2014 10/56 18% (£ 4.77)
2015 8/33 24% (£ 2.30)
2016 14/41 34% +£13.45
Another solid set of figures, he provided almost +£14 LSP last year, more of the same please.
CHARLIE HILLS (3yo's) Lambourn trainer who is starting to make his mark, just his 3yo's this month.
2013 7/43 16% +£ 0.07
2014 5/31 16% +£13.50
2015 5/34 15% +£13.75
2016 8/38 21% (£ 5.49)
Ironically his best strike rate and number of winners last year but a LSL, the thing that struck me was he had 9 seconds and 6 thirds last year which means almost 2/3 of his 3yo runners were at least placed last June.
JAMES FANSHAWE (3yo+) Another Newmarket trainer, we've not included his 2yo's, he hasn't run many in June (4) but all of them have lost.
2013 3/22 13% (£13.75)
2014 6/31 19% +£23.75
2015 3/26 12% +£12.50
2016 7/23 30% +£17.50
Solid stuff and comes into June with 2 winners and 5 placed from his last 10 runners.
DEAN IVORY (ALL) Was a virgin entry in the May blog and now makes the June blog as well.
2013 1/16 6% (£12.25)
2014 2/23 9% (£ 8.50)
2015 4/17 24% +£48.88
2016 7/31 23% +£41.75
Obviously its the last two years that gets him in the blog, those figures are as good as it gets.
JONATHON PORTMAN (2&3yo's) The first virgin of the month, Mrs Danvers is his stable star, nice figures for June.
2013 4/15 27% +£65.00
2014 2/16 13% +£ 4.65
2015 4/25 16% +£21.00
2016 4/17 24% +£36.80
Really good figures, he's 3/40 and (£25.15) for the same period with his older horses.
RUTH CARR (4yo+) North Yorks trainer back from last year where she gave us a +£10 profit.
2012 8/46 17% (£ 7.00)
2013 7/61 11% (£10.25)
2014 11/51 22% +£42.83
2015 11/52 21% +£48.75
2016 8/59 14% +£ 7.00
A better strike rate would be nice but winners usually come at a big price.
WILLIE KNIGHT (ALL) Possibly another virgin, most of his winners will come darn sarf but strangely has a good record at Leicester.
2013 5/26 19% +£10.00
2014 3/24 13% (£11.50)
2015 5/26 19% +£ 2.00
2016 5/33 15% +£13.96
Would ideally like a slightly better strike rate but can usually be relied upon to get his winners at decent prices.
CHRIS WALL (4yo+) Newmarket trainer, likes the seaside tracks, does particularly well at Yarmouth.
2013 2/10 20% (£ 4.75)
2014 1/7 14% (£ 2.00)
2015 2/11 18% +£29.50
2016 5/13 38% +£14.15
Won't have lots of runners so not much risk involved.
MALCOLM SAUNDERS (3yo+) Don't know much about this guy, trains in Somerset, Bath and Salisbury look to be his happiest hunting grounds.
2013 4/15 27% +£ 8.38
2014 2/15 13% (£ 4.25)
2015 3/22 14% +£10.00
2016 5/12 42% +£21.25
He's 0/12 with his 2yo's over the above period so I think we'll give them a miss.
The comments have been great this month, please leave below again with any questions or observations.
Results will appear here for all the blogs combined.
Monthly Results (All blogs combined)
June 1st - Not the best start to the month despite our first runner winning at 4/6, nothing else in the afternoon, we got a bit back on the AW at night with winners for Beckett, Suroor and Johnston but the biggest price was 5/2
4/18
(£8.55)
June 2nd - Another poor day although O'Brien bagged the big race we only added to it with winners for Henderson and Hill from plenty of runners. The aaaargh result came at Donny when Fanshawe's Cape to Cuba was beaten a head at 33's (backed at 87 on the exchanges).
3/26
(£14.25)
June 3rd - Multiple runners in races is not something I really like but today it got the blog going for the month. 6 runners in the Derby produced a 40/1 winner (backed at 46 on the exchanges), 4 runners in a 4 runner race at Worcester saw the outsider just get touched off by the 3rd fav, then at Donny we had 3 in a race that was won by a 12/1 Hills runner. Add to those winners for Carr, Simcock, Fanshawe, Henderson and Haggas means a fantastic day.
8/41
+£45.60
June 4th - A much quieter day with just our NH trainers having runners, de Bromhead was the star of the day with Conrad Hastings scooting in 8's (backed at 14's). Newland had his customary Sunday winner to add to the coffers.
2/7
+£11.50
June 5th - Another winning day but it would have been much better if UNIT OF ASSESSMENT had won for Willie Knight, I'd backed it at 80's, it returned 16's and finished second after threatening to win until the last 100 yards. Anyway Ivory had a 10/1 winner at night which backed up three shorties in the afternoon from Carr, Nicholls and De Bromhead.
4/21
+£2.35
June 6th - Poor afternoon then the NH runners were 4/4 in the evening, short prices but just a small loss.
4/12
(£0.64)
June 7th - Quiet day especially with the NR's. An 8/1 winner for Carr (small r4) and a really impressive winner for Suroor (DONT GIVE UP). A small win on the day.
2/9
+£2.35
June 8th - Good day, Hills was the star with winners at 8/1 and 9/2, Longsdon had a winner at 11/2 and I was glad to see Stoute and Johnston have winners after an indifferent start to the month.
5/18
+£11.50
June 9th - Another good day, Hills continued his good form with a 12/1 winner, Ivory and Carr had 8/1 winners after R4's and Simcock had a shorty.
4/26
+£8.20
June 10th - A poor Saturday for once, 5 winners but the biggest was 5/1, plenty of runners.
5/34
(£16.42)
June 11th - We had to wait but a 16/1 winner for Ivory late on made it a great day after a Fanshawe winner earlier.
2/15
+£9.00
June 12th - Another great day with winners for De Bromhead and Carr at 10's, a 6/1 winner for Johnston and an odds on winner for Haggas.
4/20
+£10.62
June 13th - Really unlucky today, Saunders had a 40/1 shot beaten a neck we also had placed horses at 33's and 16's. Three winners but nothing bigger than 9/2.
3/15
(£4.67)
June 14th - Another decent day, 8/1 winner for Johnston, 11/2 for Haggas and 6/1 (small r4) for Henderson. We also had a 10 minute spell with 2 races and 2 runners both finished 2nd and 3rd.
3/18
+£3.90
June 15th - Winning day with Ivory landing a 10/1 winner (backed at 14's), a 6/1 winner for Stoute and 2/1 winner for Haggas. Nothing at night though so just small gains.
3/23
+£2.00
June 16th - Fantastic day with 8 winners! The Johnston 2yo's are starting to fire (2 winners), 2 for Nicholls and Carr, Saunders, Stoute and Simcock also came to the party.
8/30
+£11.67
June 17th - The horses are running so well at present, another 8 winners today, the highlights being winners for De Bromhead and Hills at 12's and 11's.
8/32
+£19.50
June 18th - It just gets better and better, with 5 winners today we are over +£100 for the month. The highlight today was the 16/1 Johnston 2yo winner. My personal highlight was Pipers Note at Doncaster (Carr) who I tipped to anyone who'd listen!
5/20
+£22.50
June 19th - First poor day for a while, just one short priced winner for Haggas.
1/12
(£9.80)
June 20th - We got out of jail a little today, nothing of note until the last race at Ascot when Appleby have the 1-2, we got 20's on the winner, 10mins later Carr had a 10/1 winner, two more short ones at night gave us some nice gains.
5/26
+£11.63
June 21st - A frustrating day that ended up in virtual parity thanks to our NH trainers. The day started with a second at 66's after that we had another 8 seconds! Eventually O'Neill had a 11/1 winner (returned 13/2) and then de Bromhead 14's to add to Highland Reel at Ascot.
3/33
(£2.33)
June 22nd - Bless Him!!!! Good old Aiden gave us a lovely start with Sioux Nation backed at 18's then Mr Simcocks Bless Him won (backed at 40's). Only other winner was a short one from Henderson at night. Just the three winners again but massive profits today.
3/35
+£27.40
June 23rd - After a fantastic day yesterday an awful one today, the night was particularly frustrating we had runners in 10 races with 1 winner, 6 seconds and 2 thirds.
3/35
(£28.12)
June 24th - Another poor day, we managed 5 winners but nothing bigger than 6/1.
5/36
(£9.37)
June 25th - Ok day, four winners and a slight profit.
4/12
+£2.70
June 26th - Only one runner in the afternoon, a few at night but just two winners so a small loss.
2/13
(£4.25)
June 27th - A nice winner for Saunders in the afternoon at 6's (returned 7/2). And a short one for Haggas gave us a nice win on the day. I also backed two of Nicholls by mistake today.....and they both won! They did appear in the figures for a short time but have now been taken out.
2/8
+£1.69
June 28th - Just the 8 winners today!!! A treble for Henderson, a double for Saunders, the highlight was a 14/1 winner for Kirk on the AW (returned 8's). JJ and Newland also had winners.
8/21
+£19.79
June 29th - Three winners, the highlight was Doctor Bartolo for Hills that was backed at 16's with a small r4. We ended the day almost level.
3/22
+£0.10
June 30th - The last day of what has been a fantastic month. We had a good day up to 6.00pm with 5 winners then only 1 winner from 15 after 6.00. Still a winning day though although we haven't quite broke the £300 LSP barrier.
6/32
+£2.83
Monthly Total
122/670
18.21%
+£128.43
Yearly Total
451/2598
17.36%
+£293.07
A fantastic month comes to an end, at almost £300 LSP and only halfway through the year is way in front of where I thought we would be. We are still to have a losing month this year, the last losing month was October 2016.
