Who Will be the Next Manager of Mansfield?

A list of the potential candidates should the job become available today based on previous people appearing in the betting odds when the position was vacant last time, to others who have a profile that would fit the club in terms of the last few managers they have had.

David Artell

Image: skysports

Since  David Artell left his first managerial job at Crewe Alexandra in April 2022 he has been out of day to day football. This has not stopped the bookmakers including the League Two Manager Of The Year (2020) in virtually every EFL next manager market.

Leam Richardson

Image: skysports

The former Accrington Stanley and Wigan Athletic manager is a regular name added to the bookies betting odds. He did well at the DW Stadium, winning the League One Title and being named Manager Of The Season. However, he left Wigan in November 2022 and has not yet secured a new job.

Gareth Ainsworth

Ainsworth is most associated with Wycombe Wanderers, where he spent 11 seasons. His side won two promotions in 2018 and 2020, the latter taking the Chairboys into the heady environs of the Sky Bet Championship. In 2023, he was appointed to manage Queens Park Rangers, a club he had played for. The return could have gone better as his attacking style left Rangers too open at the back, with his side only winning five of twenty-eight games. He was sacked in October of the same year.

Danny Cowley

Danny Cowley features in nearly every League 1 and League 2 betting market. After impressing at Lincoln City, where his side won the National League, League 2 and the EFL Trophy in three seasons, Cowley has not fared as well in his subsequent roles at Huddersfield and  Portsmouth.

Mark Warburton

He has been out of day to day football management since leaving Queens Park Rangers in May 2022. Prior to this he had managed Brentford, Glasgow Rangers, and Nottingham Forest. His CV shows he achieved promotion with the Bees in 2014 and won the Scottish Championship and Challenge Cup when at Ibrox.
