He finished 5th of 11 runners last time out at Redcar in a class 6 handicap over 7f on good to firm going when made favorite, weakening a furlong out, beaten 6 1/4 lengths. He is in a class 6 handicap over 6f on good going and has P J McDonald in the saddle. This gelding has not won for some time, but went close at Leicester in a class 6 handicap over 6f on good going in April. Jockey and trainer are in decent form at present, has a decent e/w shout in this race today.

Starsong is a 6-year-old mare trained by Michael Appleby. She has been ultra-consistent of late, posting RPRs of 55-55-56 on turf. She is a five-time AW winner, with her last win off 62 at Kempton, and runs off 51 today, so clearly well handicapped. She has also posted a career-high RPR of 69 on turf, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Starsong contend today. She comes here in good form for a trainer who has won with two of his last seven runners: Rascal Recknell at 12-1 and War Howl at 15-2. He has also had two runner-up finishes with Annaf, beaten a neck, and Daring Legend, beaten a neck. The yard is hitting some good form - big chance.

The trainer has had 4 winners for a 21% strike rate in the last two weeks and his 6yo could be ready for a big run after a six month break. This 6f trip on fast ground is ideal and he’s on an attractive mark going off the form he showed last summer.

Up in trip should suit her and dropped mark, but still needs to make improvements from LTO effort when only 8 of 9 at Thirsk this month. Conditions should also be beneficial.
