3:10 Newcastle Tips

Two runs and two wins on the A/W last year at or around this trip. Good first run back this season at Epsom on Oaks day, beaten 6l+ but didn't get a clear run. Penzance is the danger, but he doesn't look quite as good on the A/W.

Penzance comes into today after three midfield runs on turf, which had dropped him back to his last AW winning mark. Although most of his wins have been on Poly, he does have a win here under his belt from early last year and is worth a chance with the top draw.

Consistent AW front runner. Seven wins on all-weather record. Wins at Chelmsford, C&D. Recent drop in class boosts each way value.

I'm backing Fantasy Believer, the evergreen 8-year-old Make Believe gelding trained by Ed Walker, in tomorrow’s JenningsBet In Belmont Handicap over 1 m 2f 42y on Newcastle’s Tapeta. He returns from a break of over 160 days off a mark of 90 and was last seen finishing fifth of nine at this track and trip back in January??'his first run after a layoff??'showing he handles the surface and the forecast fast pace well . That seasonal return at Newcastle reads well, considering he clocked a Timeform rating of 83 and was only beaten a few lengths??'he’s clearly tightened up since then. With Tom Marquand booked for the ride and Newcastle being one of the few tracks where his form is consistent, he could bounce back strongly, especially in this 11-runner class 2 field, where a strong tripper can capitalise. At likely odds of around 10/1, he offers appealing each-way appeal given his proven ability to race prominently on Tapeta and grind it out late.

Sea Legend is a 5-year-old gelding trained by Jim Goldie and looks to be a bit of a character. This is his fourth stable, but a change can be as good as a rest. He is 1/5 wins on AW, winning over CD off a mark of 80, posting a career-high RPR of 91 in the process. So, he looks very well handicapped off 75 and just 8st 1lb, with the capable Amie Waugh reducing the mark by 3lb. His last run came here back in May when finishing 4/9, beaten 1.25 lengths under Paul Mulrennan. So, Sea Legend has a clear liking for this galloping track, and at 14-1, there is a lot to like about this gelding's chance off a lowly 8st 1lb.

May be worth a small speculative each-way bet. His best form is on the AW. Won round here last July and comes here just 2lb higher, though this is a much tougher race up in class and moves back up to a trip of 10f.

Hosanna Power is in stall number 5, which is a middle draw and suits him as he likes to race prominently. He runs after 36 days off and was beaten well down the field at Ayr last time, so something was wrong. Trained by Tom Easterby and ridden by Danny Fentiman, he has 8 runs with 1 win and 3 places, giving a 12.5% win rate and 50% place rate overall. His current mark of 78 is fair to me, and with a good pace, he has each-way claims if he can bounce back to his better form on this surface. Taking a wild card shot here so smaller stakes
