White Christmas odds in general still sit at 4/5 with snow expected in some parts of the UK

The latest odds still sit at 4/5 that we will see a White Christmas this year, with a 55% chance that we snowfall in some part of the UK.

As temperatures are getting colder and colder each day, we may well see those odds tumble further as we approach 25th December.

Coral slashed the odds from 2/1 to 4/5 that we see snow on Christmas Day this year after a chilly last couple of months and those odds remain the same just 10 days before Christmas.

The last widespread White Christmas we had in the UK was back in 2010 with snow or sleet at 83% of the recording stations.

What is a White Christmas?

The old definition of a White Christmas was if snow fell at the Met Office in London, but this has since changed to a variety of stations across the UK.

'The definition that the Met Office uses to define a White Christmas is for one Snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25th December,' according to the Met Office themselves.

The last time we saw widespread recordings of snow on the ground in the UK on Christmas Day was way back in 2010, so 12 years on it seems like we're due a bit of snowfall on Christmas Day.

The Met Office say that one snowflake to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25th December officially makes it a White Christmas. This can be small or widespread, with the last widespread White Christmas back in 2010.
