Now odds-on at 4/6 for the Doomsday Clock to move closer to midnight

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists' Doomsday Clock now has a 4/6 chance of moving closer to midnight according to the latest odds given by betting sites.

Ever since 1947, the Doomsday Clock has warned the public about how close we are as humanity to destroy our world with various different ways discussed by scientists.

The clock has moved since that start date on 25 different occasions with the biggest time 17 minutes to midnight at the end of the Cold War in 1991.

Fast forward more than 30 years later though and we're now at a dangerous time in society with just 90 seconds to midnight and a 60% chance of it moving again in 2025 according to the latest betting odds.

Doomsday Clock most recently moved back to 90 seconds from 100 seconds in 2023

2023 was the last change in the Doomsday Clock with scientists pointing towards the War in Ukraine, nuclear and climate concerns.

The 2024 announcement said that there was an "ever-present danger of nuclear war through mistake or miscalculation" with the war in Ukraine continuing.

The official YouTube channel of the Bulletin streamed the live announcement of 2024's Doomsday Clock and it will likely be streamed once more on their channel.

January tends to be announcement date for Doomsday Clock

January is expected to be the next announcement for the Doomsday Clock with The Bulletin annually displaying the time on the clock at the beginning of the year usually.

2024's announcement came on January 23 with 2023's on January 24 and it's set to be a similar time in which we find out in 2025.

With no change in the Doomsday Clock in 2024 it's unclear as of yet how it'll be in 2025 but the odds-on chance given suggests a strong one.
