16-time champion Joey Chestnut was banned from the event last month in dramatic fashion

Joey Chestnut was well ready to make it 17 wins at Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest this summer before he was dramatically banned last month.

Major League Eating announced last month that Chestnut wouldnot be allowed to participate this year saying, "We are devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut has chosen to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than competing in the 2024 Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest."

That ban is due to the deal that Chestnut has with Impossible Foods, who are a plant-based brand that are a rival to Nathan's.

Netflix announced that Chestnut will face off against old rival Takeru Kobayashi in a live Hot Dog eating event on their platform on September 2.

Miki Sudo is once again favourite to win the Women's Championship

Miki Sudo has held a similar dominance to Chestnut in the Women's only Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest with a total of 8 titles won in the 10 years she has competed.

Sudo is the massive favourite to win once again this year with her odds currently sitting at 1/20 to win the event ahead of Mayoi Ebihara.

The American competitive eater won by 6 Dogs in last year's event and has the women's record in the event with a total of 48.5 dogs eaten back in 2020.
