Joey Chestnut's dramatic ban from this year's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest blows market open
Betting odds are now available for this year's edition of Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest with the betting market blown open in dramatic fashion after Joey Chestnut was banned.
Chestnut is the 16-time champion of the event and he won't get the chance to make it 17 this summer after Nathan's banned him from competing, with the event as always taking place on the 4th of July.
That ban is due to the deal that Chestnut has with Impossible Foods, who are a plant-based brand that are a rival to Nathan's.
Major League Eating announced on Tuesday that Chestnut will not be allowed to participate this year, saying in a statement "We are devastated to learn that Joey Chestnut has chosen to represent a rival brand that sells plant-based hot dogs rather than competing in the 2024 Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest."

Geoffrey Esper finished in second place behind Chestnut last year with the Massachusetts native 13 dogs behind the winner but he now has a free run of going one better this year.
Chestnut's ban from the event makes it clear for any of the men who are usually battling it out for second place to finally finish in first at the event this year.
The latest betting odds put Esper as the favourite at 2/1 to win the Hot Dog Eating Contest, with James Webb and Nick Wehry following as joint second favourites in the odds list.
