Elon Musk leads the early betting market to win the 2025 Time Person of the Year
Businessman Elon Musk is the early favourite with betting sites to be crowned 2025's TIME Magazine Person of the Year with odds now offered for the prestigious prize.
Musk has been named as Time Person of the Year before with the Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder awarded the prize back in 2021 for his achievements that year.
Time's editor-in-chief at the time Edward Felsenthal said at the time for Musk's win that "few individuals have had more influence than Musk on life on Earth, and potentially life off Earth too".
Fast forward 3 years later and Musk now leads the betting odds to be crowned next year's Person of the Year with his popularity and influence growing year-by-year.
Musk owns Social Media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and he played a massive part in the US Presidential Election race throughout 2024.
2025 Time Person of the Year Winner | Odds | Probability |
---|---|---|
Elon Musk | 3/1 | 25.0% |
AI | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Sam Altman | 10/1 | 9.1% |
ChatGPT | 12/1 | 7.7% |
Jerome Powell | 12/1 | 7.7% |
AI once again features in the market
AI has been in and around the betting odds for Time Person of the Year in the past 12 months despite obviously not being a specific person that they can give the award to.
While announcing the 2024 Time Person of the Year, the magazine also launched TIME AI which gives generative AI as part of their journalism.
The rise in popularity of AI and the magazine itself using AI as part of their content could mean that we see something that relates to AI lead the market throughout 2025 for the next Person of the Year.

Donald Trump was crowned 2024's Person of the Year
TIME Magazine confirmed that Donald Trump was their Person of the Year back on December 12 after he won the latest US Presidential Election for a second term as President of the United States.
Trump has now won the award on two occasions with Time also giving him the accolade back in 2016 after his first election victory.
Time Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs gave his reasoning for Trump's awarding in a letter to readers saying that he had spent 2024 "marshalling a comeback of historic proportions" politically in the US.
