Who Will Be The Next Manager Of Tranmere Rovers
The first place to look for candidates is for recently released or sacked football managers currently out of work. We may get some clues before a market is created when we look back at previous Tranmere Rovers appointments and what the current odds are on offer. The following names were initially in TalkSPORTBET's next Tranmere Rovers betting market in March 2023.
David Artell
The former center-back spent 5 years in charge of Crewe Alexandra, achieving promotion and suffering relegation in his time at Gresty Road. He has been linked with other Football League vacancies, including Swindon Town and Exeter City where at times, he was the favourite to get the job.
Danny Cowley
Built his reputation at Lincoln City between 2016 and 2019, winning promotion to the Football League in his first season with the Imps. The 2018-19 season saw a further promotion for Cowley and Lincoln into the dizzying heights of League 1. This success naturally attracted more prominent suitors and in September 2019 he joined recently relegated Huddersfield Town. He managed to keep the club in the Championship but was sacked in July 2020. Portsmouth was his next club, joining Pompey in March 2021 results were mixed and at the start of 2023 with the club in 12th place he was again given the boot. Cowley (and his brother) were linked to the Oxford United job before Liam Manning was appointed in March 2023.
Karl Robinson
The former MK Dons, Charlton Athletic and Oxford United manager Karl Robinson has built a solid reputation from all the clubs that he has managed. So far, the pinnacle of his achievements was getting Milton Keynes Dons promoted into the Championship in 2015. Playing in the Championship was a big step for MKD and they returned to League 1. In October 2016, Robinson was sacked. A month later, he was back in football at Charlton Athletic, where he stayed for 18 months before moving to Oxford United. He spent nearly 5 years, achieved two playoff appearances and managed 274 games for the U’s before being sacked in February 2023. When out of work, he is a go-to candidate in English football; he was 1/1 to be appointed at QPR in 2023 before Gareth Ainsworth.
Graham Alexander
After a caretaker role at Preston North End, Graham Alexander got his first taste of being a permanent manager when he was appointed at Fleetwood Town in 2012. Fleetwood Town won promotion to League 1 in his second season at the Lancashire club before results went awry, and he was let go. Further spells at Scunthorpe United and Salford City followed. In November 2023, he was appointed at Bradford City replacing Mark Hughes.
Brian Barry Murphy
The Rookie manager's first job as boss was at Rochdale United; a team he also played for scoring once in 66 appearances. He resigned in June 2021 and has been away from Football League management since. He is currently in charge of the Manchester City Elite Development Squad.
