England 5.00
France 5.50
Germany 6.50
Portugal 9.00
Spain 9.00

Q: Who will win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024?

IB: “It has to be someone who is going to play until the end of the tournament or at least until the semi-finals. So with the logic that I previously said about who is going to win it, then I guess it should be a player who plays for England or France or Croatia.

“If I have to pick one, then I'd go for Harry Kane.”

Euro 2024 17 Jun @ 00:18 - Top Goalscorer
Kylian Mbappe 5.50
Harry Kane 7.00
Cristiano Ronaldo 12.00
Jude Bellingham 13.00
Romelu Lukaku 13.00

Q: Who will win the Golden Ball at Euro 2024?

IB: “Luka Modric or Josko Gvardiol. Gvardiol is playing so well and is improving almost every game at Manchester City. So, those two from the Croatian side and then maybe Phil Foden. He's been unbelievable this season.

“If he continues to play like that, he is going to be one of the best players of the tournament. Who else? Jude Bellingham. He's such a good player, so he has to be in contention.

“Jamal Musiala for Germany? Awesome.”

Q: Can Josko Gvardiol be player of the tournament at Euro 2024?

IB: “Josko Gvardiol can be the player of the tournament, for sure. Especially in the second half of the season in England, in the Champions League, he's been unbelievable. Whoever knows him and follows him closely knows that the guy's just unbelievable.

“He's going to be even better in years to come and for sure he's going to be one of the best not only defenders, but players in the world very soon.”

Q: Who are your dark horses for Euro 2024?

IB: “My dark horses are Germany, not because of recent results but in the Euros and World Cups they're always one of the favourites. Italy also missed on the World Cup and they will for sure be really motivated to do well.

“To choose from smaller countries, Switzerland. They always have a strong team with good players.”

Q: Can England win Euro 2024?

IB: “I expect England to go far with the quality of players they have and the form of those players.

“In the last couple of tournaments, not just Euros but World Cups as well, they're getting better and better. It seems to me that eventually it's going to happen. Maybe in the last Euros, they deserved to win it.

“They were really close and they played good football. Some of their players are the best players in the world in the likes of Bellingham or Harry Kane or Phil Foden.

“So they have every right to believe that it's going to be their tournament.”

Q: Are Luka Modrc and Josko Gvardiol the key players for Croatia?

IB: “Of course Luka Modric and Josko Gvardiol will be very important but we have enough quality in the rest of the team to feel confident.

“Kovicic has been really, really good for City, especially in the second part of the season. When he got a chance, he delivered almost every game.

“Then we have a striker in German football, Andrej Kramaric, who has been in really good goal scoring form recently. Throughout the whole team we have quality, we have now experience of playing in big tournaments, we will go there with confidence and believe.”

Q: Which young player will shine for Croatia at Euro 2024?

IB: “Young players that could shine include Josip Sutalo from Ajax, he's someone who is a really, really good defender and I believe he's going to get better and soon he's going to go to a bigger league and bigger club.

“He is someone who is going to play with Gvardiol at the back and I think they will be impressive in this European Championship.

“Luka Ivanuscic, he also plays in the Dutch league. He is a winger, plays on the left, very skillful, and likes to dribble. He reminds me of Eden Hazard. So he is somebody who can really show his potential.”

Q: Could Croatia’s young stars attract Premier League interest?

IB: “Every player's dream is to play at the highest level and the Premier League is definitely the highest level of football. Maybe in a year or two, but for sure when the right time arrives or comes, they should go and test themselves against the best.

“The Premier League is the place to be, and I'm expecting those players to one day be there.”

Q: What do you make of the new Croatia kit for Euro 2024?

IB: “When they announced the new kit it provoked a bit of controversy in our country because our red and white checkered home kit is a famous one.

“This time they've made it with less squares and all I can say is it's much nicer when you hold it in your hands than when you look at it on the television as.

“The public is still judgmental about it which means it wasn’t received too well, but the second strip is really nice and I think it’s going to become a favourite.

“If you get to the final it doesn't matter what kit you wear, people will get used to it. When you win games, when you progress in these types of tournaments, any shirt, any kit will find its way to the hearts of the fans.”

Q: What will the Croatian support be like at Euro 2024?

Igor Biscan expect huge support as usual from Croatian travelling fans.IB: “We will have huge support from so many Croatians in Germany and although we have a tough group with Spain and Italy, with the new format of competition I believe we will get enough points to progress even if we don't go as two of the best teams in the group.

“With the support that we are going to have in Germany with so many Croatians, trust me, we will feel like we are playing at home.

“It's going to be a special experience for all the players, for the team, for the fans. Even the people here in Croatia can't wait to travel to support the team. There is so much demand for the tickets. It's crazy. It's going to be a home atmosphere for Croatians.

“They'll go there and they will just enjoy themselves and behave themselves. I have to say that sometimes, we could not be proud of the way they behaved.

“But recently in the last couple of years in tournaments, they've behaved well and they've really supported the team. And they were a factor of positivity on the streets as well.

“With so many of them in Germany, with so many of them travelling from Croatia, it's going to be crazy and for sure everybody will remember our famous national colours this summer.”

Q: What are your memories of playing in the Croatia national team?

IB: “When I first started with the national team with the generation who won a bronze medal in France 1998 and this generation was full of big names, big characters.

“I idolised some of them like Alen Boksic, Davor Suker, like Zvonimir Boban, Slavan Bilic, Igor Stimac, Drazen Ladic and Robert Jarni.

“So many of them, even Aljosa Asanovic, Robert Prosinecki. I played with them and of course it's a special feeling and you remember those games and those times.

“It's a different time now. It's much more public and everything is under the public eye. Back in those days, you could be witness to some crazy stuff. I cannot say too much about it. But yeah, good memories.”

Q: Is Luka Modric the greatest Croatia player of all time?

IB: “Luka Modric is the best Croatian player of all time for sure, there's no discussion. I will go as far to say that he is going to probably be the best Croatian player not only up until now but also in the future as well.

“To break this domination of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or was just ridiculous to be honest. Also to do so much with the national team and with so much with Real Madrid It's just crazy. I don't see anyone else surpassing him in the future.”

Luka Modric is the best Croation player of all time according to igor Biscan - Robert Prosinecki gets a mention too!Q: Is this the last tournament for Luka Modric in a Croatia shirt?

IB: “It's difficult to say if this is the last tournament for Luka Modric. It's difficult to say because he is still playing so well and looking so well. The next one is in two years time at the World Cup, so it's not so far.

“Of course, if it happens, I wouldn't say a sad day for Croatians or for football as well, but I would say a nostalgic and sentimental day because he's been a part of such a big era especially for Croatian fans, for Croatian people.

“When the day arrives it will be an empty feeling for quite a bit of time not to have him on the pitch.”

Q: What is your prediction for Croatia vs Spain?

IB: “We usually don't do well against Spain maybe but I'd go for a draw and go for 1-1.”

Igor Bišćan born 4 May 1978) is a Croatian former professional football player and current manager. During his playing career, Bišćan was known for his versatility, capable of playing various positions in both defense and midfield, although he primarily featured as a central midfielder and later as a central defender.

Igor Biscan had a successful playing career and continues to succeed in management

.

Club and International Career

In December 2000, Bišćan joined Liverpool for £5.5 million. Although he faced positional changes and inconsistency, he played a vital role in their 2004-05 Champions League triumph, despite being an unused substitute in the final. After Liverpool, he had a stint with Panathinaikos before returning to Dinamo Zagreb in 2007. There, he captained the team to further successes, including two league titles and two Croatian Cups. Bišćan retired in April 2012 after undergoing surgery.

Internationally, Bišćan debuted for Croatia in a UEFA Euro 2000 qualifier against Macedonia in June 1999 and scored his only international goal against Mexico. However, following a fallout with the Croatian Football Federation in 2003, he stepped away from international duty.

Managerial Career

Bišćan transitioned to management in 2016, starting with Croatian club Rudeš, leading them to the Druga HNL title. He swiftly moved to Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia, winning the PrvaLiga title and Slovenian Cup in his first season.

In October 2018, Bišćan took over Rijeka, finishing second in the league and securing the Croatian Cup. He became head coach of Croatia U21 in October 2019, guiding them to their first-ever UEFA European Under-21 Championship quarter-finals and earning national praise.

In April 2023, he was appointed head coach of Dinamo Zagreb but was dismissed in August 2023 after their UEFA Champions League elimination. In October 2023, Bišćan managed Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab, but his tenure ended in December 2023 following a defeat to Al-Okhdood.

Igor Bišćan's career, both as a player and manager, demonstrates resilience and versatility, leaving a notable legacy at various clubs and on the international stage.

Interview May 2024

Speaking exclusively to OLBG, former Liverpool star Igor Biscan has admitted that replacing Jurgen Klopp is an ‘impossible job’ for former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.

The former Croatia international has also outlined Andrej Kramaric as the man to solve Liverpool’s issues in front of goal, while tipping Steve Gerrard to return to Anfield as boss.

The Champions League winner has also tipped Josko Gvardiol to be the player of the tournament at Euro 2024 ahead of Croatia’s greatest ever player in Luka Modric.

Q: Is Arne Slot the right man to replace Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool?

Biscan thinks Arne Slot will have a hard job replacing Klopp at LiverpoolIB: “Nobody can replace Jurgen Klopp. It's just impossible to replace a person and a coach like him. I don't think any Liverpool supporter should expect any person, any coach to be able to do it. It will be unfair if anyone expects this from Slot.

“It's a new era, it's the beginning and the new coach needs support. He needs the same amount of support that every coach has and every player has, whoever plays for Liverpool.

“It's a good team, it's a young team, there is a lot of potential and of course I expect Liverpool to challenge for the trophies in years to come.”

Q: Should Jurgen Klopp have won more or is one Premier League title enough?

Klopp was unfortunate with Man City's riches whilst in charge according to Igor BiscanIB: “Unfortunately for him and for all the supporters, he's been at the club during the era of rich people who controlled Manchester City

“City were just too strong and all those titles proved that they are the best team of the last decade. So of course you would hope to win more than one Premier League title but in the circumstances it’s okay.

“Everybody is happy because the long wait was over. Also the Champions League trophy is a massive one too.

“Not only the trophies and so many big games, but the way they played, the way they connected with the fans and the special way they played football just brought so many people to this club and won so many new supporters and this is something which is down to a manager as well.

“So it's been an amazing time the last, what, eight, nine years with Mr. Klopp and hopefully something similar will happen with the new manager.”

Q: Will Steven Gerrard still one day manage Liverpool?

Biscan thinks Gerrard could still manage LiverpoolIB: “Of course Steven Gerrard can still manage Liverpool in the future. Steven has all the credentials to get the job and to be a Liverpool manager for sure.

“It's a long time and a long way to teach everything you need to know about being a manager and I'm sure that eventually the day will come that he's going to be ready to take over at Anfield.”

Q: Was Jamie Carragher the loudest in the dressing room at Liverpool?

IB: “Jamie Carragher was always the one who spoke the most, although I didn't understand most of it, especially in my first two years.

“Homegrown players are the ones that have the biggest influence in the dressing room, especially if they are leaders and important players in the team and he was.

“They know the place, they know the club and everybody, all the others follow them.”

Q: What was it like to watch Istanbul 2005 from the sidelines?

IB: “It was unbelievable. It was really unbelievable to sit on the bench and to warm up and to just experience it from the side of the pitch. As soon as we scored the first goal, momentum shifted in our favour and we just knew that we were going to win.”

Q: What were the celebrations like?

IB: “It's been a long time, but as you can imagine, we had to celebrate it properly. Let's put it that way.”

Q: Will Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool this summer?

Salh, still one of the most important players at Liverpool - Igor BiscanIB: “It's very difficult for me to predict if Mohamed Salah will stay at Liverpool. He's had a really good season again and he's been an important player even this season, which wasn't his greatest. So he's definitely a player who can still play on the highest level.

“It depends on what he wants, on what his plans are, but as long as he's good enough to play on the highest level, he should be considered as a player who needs to be one of the most important players at Liverpool.

“But of course, people from the club and the player himself will decide what is going to be in the future.”

Q: Where do Liverpool need to strengthen this summer?

IB: “At times this season it looked to me that they might need a really good finisher in front of the goal. I would go for a proper centre forward, a goal scorer, because they've created so many chances this season and missed a lot. That is the reason they didn’t stay in the title race.”

Q: Should they target Croatian forward Andrej Kramaric?

IB: “I would love to see Andrej Kramaric at Liverpool, or any Croatian playing at Anfield in a red shirt, it’s always unbelievable.

“But if he does well at Euros, then who knows? He could be a possibility. They need a good centre forward, someone who is guaranteed 20 odd goals, that's the position that they need to strengthen.”

Q: Will the centre of defence be England’s downfall at the Euros?

IB: “There must be enough options for England to cover the positions of centre backs.

“I believe the quality of the other options is good enough to influence the result in the end because you have John Stones and maybe Lewis Dunk from Brighton.

“I would be more concerned if Phil Foden is injured or if Jude Bellingham or Harry Kane are injured. As long as they stay fit.

“We must not forget that you have full back positions, so many options that you can use that you can balance this back four in a way that you should not feel exposed.

“Kyle Walker, he can play as a centre-back as well in some games. So I will not be worried about these positions.

“I would be really positive and confident, even a little bit arrogant because of the quality of the players they have. And as I said, they're getting closer and closer and for sure it's going to happen, if not at this Euros or next World Cup, but it's going to happen for sure very soon.”
