The new German Bundesliga season kicks off on in August with it's longest serving club Bayern Munich looking for their 33rd Bundesliga title and 12th in succession. They are once again firm favourites with the bookmakers in the Bundesliga ante post betting market to retain their Bundesliga title and with Harry Kane joining their strike force even more goals will be on the agenda.

Bundesliga Stats - Last 5 Seasons

In this section we take a look at the Bundesliga stats over the past five seasons, in particular the popular betting markets like:

  • Both Teams To Score
  • Over/Under 2.5 Goals

These markets are extremely popular for football betting purposes and predictions from OLBG's knowledgeable football tipsters can be found on our German Bundesliga Betting Tips page.

The nature of these two way markets make for great multiple perm bets and when our expert football tipsters agree on the same outcome you may find the German Bundesliga 'BTTS' and 'Over/Under 2.5 Goals' tips will be selections in our daily accas.

To help with your Bundesliga bets here are the following Bundesliga statistics for the last five seasons:

Season 2022/23 2021/22 2020/21 2019/20 2018/19
Homes 47% 47% 42% 40% 45%
Draws 25% 24% 26% 22% 24%
Aways 28% 29% 31% 38% 31%
BTTS 59% 61% 60% 58% 59%
Over 2.5 Goals 60% 58% 59% 65% 62%
Goals Per Match 3.17 3.12 3.03 3.21 3.18

The Both Teams To Score (BTTS) in a match percentage remains fairly consistent between 58% to 61% over the last five seasons. Helping the Total Goals Per Match average to remain above three goals.

Both Teams To Score:

OLBG's football tipsters may develop a particular niche and produce regular consistent profits for specific football betting markets, the 'Both Teams To Score' is one area we focus on in the OLBG tipster competitions.

Take a look at the 'BTTS' Tipster Table which shows how the tipsters are performing this month and have performed over the past six and twelve months.

By clicking on the LSP (Level Stakes Profit), ROI (Return On Investment), Strike (Strike Rate) and PM (Profit Months) headers at the top of the columns you can sort the table to show the best performing tipsters in those categories over the past 6 or 12 months.

No doubt they will use current and previous seasonal stats as a guide to finding a betting edge and the Bundesliga is a prime example of producing a high percentage of matches finishing with both teams scoring.

  • Each Bundesliga season since 2015/16 saw at least 55% of the 306 matches finish with both teams scoring (61% in the 2021/22 season).

Now, 55% converted to odds is around 4/5 (or 1.8 decimal odds) so punters backing 'Both Teams To Score' in German Bundesliga matches for the period when the odds were greater than 4/5 or 1.8 were effectively getting 'value' odds as these odds were better than the number of times this outcome was successful.

That's a basic example and obviously there were no guarantees that every time 'BTTS' was backed at odds of greater than 4/5 that it would have been a successful bet but you can see that referring to the seasonal stats gives an idea of how often outcomes happened.

In a later section we delve further to see which teams matches finished above the league average for 'BTTS - Yes' last season.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals:

Total Goals Is another popular betting market with a specific focus for many OLBG tipsters and again those performing well in this area can be found via the Football Goals Tipster Table.

  • Similar to the 'BTTS' market, the Over 2.5 goals outcome has landed in a high percentage of Bundesliga matches over the past five years, peaking at 65% in the 2019/20 season.

Expressed in odds terms, 65% is around 8/15 (1.53 decimal) so punters getting better than these odds when backing German Bundesliga matches to finish Over 2.5 Goals during that season were hopefully on to a winner more often than not and over the season hopefully produced a steady profit.

By digging further into those 65% of matches finishing with over 2.5 Goals in the 2019/20 season we can see which Bundesliga teams contributed the most.

The following table shows the top five Bundesliga teams who finished with the highest percentage of their matches going over 2.5 goals in the 2019/20 season:

Over 2.5 Goals Goals Per Match
B.Munich 79% 3.88
E.Frankfurt 76% 3.50
FC Koln 74% 3.53
H.Berlin 74% 3.15
B.Dortmund 71% 3.68
  • So now for example, if we are taking the matches involving FC Koln or Hertha Berlin finishing with more than 2 goals then converted to odds the 74% comes out at 1.35 decimal so around 1/3 to 4/11 fractional.

The 65% (1.53) was very good but the 74% (1.35) is obviously even better when looking for a betting edge with regular returns over the Bundesliga season and the matches involving those teams in the above table would hopefully have produced nice steady profits when betting the Over 2.5 Goals market.

Bundesliga Stats For The 2022/23 Season

If it's Goals, Goals, Goals you are looking for then the German Bundesliga provided the most entertainment of the major European domestic leagues (Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and Ligue 1) last season. The German Bundesliga saw 59% of matches finish with 'Both Teams Scoring' last season and had the highest goals per match average at 3.17, the only one of the major European domestic leagues to average more than 3 goals per game.

For BTTS the next best was France's Ligue 1 finishing at 58% and 2.8 goals per match. Spain's La Liga saw the fewest goals per game average at 2.51 and had the lowest percentage (49%) of games finish with 'Both Teams Scoring'.

Here's a table looking at last season's Bundesliga stats for the popular match markets:

German Bundesliga 2022/23
Homes 47%
Draws 25%
Aways 28%
BTTS 59%
Over 2.5 Goals 60%
Goals Per Game 3.17

Both Teams To Score:

Both teams scoring (BTTS) occurred in 59% of the Bundesliga matches last season which was a slight decline from the previous two Bundesliga seasons.

Converting the 59% is 1.69 in decimal odds or between 8/11 and 4/6 in fractional terms so that's our benchmark if we were getting value odds last season when betting both teams to score and obviously factoring in the teams playing.

Which leads us to looking at which teams last season contributed the most in terms of 'BTTS - Yes' hitting.

This table shows the following 8 Bundesliga teams who finished above the 59% league average for matches that finished with both teams scoring.

'BTTS' Goals Per Match
Stuttgart 74% 3.00
W Bremen 71% 3.38
Hoffenheim 68% 3.09
E Frankfurt 68% 3.24
H Berlin 68% 3.26
Mainz 65% 3.21
B Munich 65% 3.82
Augsburg 62% 3.09

So 59% of the 2022/23 Bundesliga matches finished with both teams scoring but if we focus on Stuttgart matches then 74% finished with both scoring.

Converted to odds the 74% is 1.35 decimal or around 4/11 in fractional terms, so not only are we talking about a high strike rate but also the odds generally on offer for 'BTTS' would be better than 1.35 so betting Borussia Dortmund matches to finish 'BTTS - Yes' last season would have produced a steady success rate at the very least.

When forming the betting odds for 'BTTS', bookies will be aware of teams trends so they will factor this when offering odds but even so punters can use these sort of stats to help formulate a successful betting strategy.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals:

The German Bundesliga saw 60% of matches finish with over two goals last season which was a slight increase on the previous two seasons. The 60% converted to odds is 1.67 decimal so around 4/6 as a fractional odds conversion.

The following table shows the 11 Bundesliga teams who managed to top the 60% league average for Over 2.5 Goals:

Team Over 2.5 Goals %
B Dortmund 71%
RB Leipzig 68%
W Bremen 68%
Leverkusen 65%
B Munich 65%
Mainz 65%
Schalke 62%
Monchengladbach 62%
E Frankfurt 62%
Hoffenheim 62%
Stuttgart 62%

No surprise to see Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Over 2.5 Goals table with 71% of their matches finishing with at least three goals, their games averaged 3.74 goals last season.

The 71% converts to 1.4 decimal odds (around 2/5 fractional odds) and their matches for the majority would have been priced up fairly short odds so for the upcoming season it may be worth looking at those teams performing highly in the current 'BTTS - Yes' table and fly a little under the radar generally for the BTTS market.

Correct Score:

The 1-1 draw has been the most popular correct score in the Bundesliga over the past seven seasons. In fact the 1-1 draw was the most occurring correct score in three of the five elite European Leagues (EPL, Serie A, Ligue 1 & La Liga) last season, the exceptions being Spain's La Liga and the English Premier League where a 1-0 home win was the most common score.

The table below shows the top five most occurring correct scores in the Bundesliga last season:

Full Time Score Number of Matches % and odds conversion
1-1 38 12% (8.33)
2-1 26 8% (12.5)
2-0 22 7% (14.28)
2-2 20 7% (14.28)
1-2 19 6% (16.66)

Strictly looking at those top Bundesliga correct scores for last season and the sort of odds we would be looking at per game, the 1-1 draw does not offer much in the way of value as odds of around 7/1 are about the sort of price the bookies quote for this score unless the match betting had a warmish favourite.

By converting the percentage of matches a particular correct score has occurred into the odds equivalent at least gives bettors an idea of whether the odds on offer are a fair reflection of how many times it is likely to happen and how much you win per stake unit.

Finding an angle is not always easy for punters when looking at the correct score market, some may have a "favourite score" which may have paid a nice return in the past, 3-2's for example which usually is up around the 25/1+ mark.

Generally the bookies are never too far wide of the mark when pricing up the correct score odds for a match which is usually formed initially using the Full Time result odds. Using the above strategy of converting the number of times a score is hitting into an odds percentage at least gives punters an idea of whether there is some value in the odds on offer against the chances of success.
