He has dropped to a mark of 52, well below his last winning rating, so looks well handicapped now. He has 4 wins and 7 places from 33 handicap runs, and although winless at this distance in 8 tries, he has placed twice and scored here over 7f on his only previous run at the track. He goes okay in this class and is effective on this type of going. The visor stays on, and Hector Crouch is a positive jockey booking. Trainer Patrick Chamings is good at getting results with well-handicapped types, and this looks a good opportunity.

Talented but quirky character. Has a massive jockey upgrade with Marquand booked and is worth one last chance to prove himself a decent animal.

Rival is an in-and-out type but has raced well on this course before and may well save the best for it. No world-beater, but with two runs under the belt from a let-up, should have derived sufficient benefit for a forward showing. Would appreciate the sting out of the ground.

After four poor runs since, he is back to two pounds below his last winning mark on 49 and could go close.

He may have strengthened up in recent months. Pat Phelan and owners Celtic Contractors Limited have had numerous horses together and have had five individual winners, amassing 18 wins: The Wonga Coup, Celtic Charlie, Celtic Ava (dam of today's selection Celtic John, who won three races off marks of 59-54-58, ranging over distances between 7-10f), Reeceltic, and Devizes. It's interesting that Celtic John didn't go unfancied on his last start, 12-1 into 17-2, and despite taking a keen hold, he went down by only 4 lengths. Callum Shepherd looks like a significant jockey booking, given he's never ridden for Pat Phelan, and I sense this could possibly be a job horse.

Only raced once since beating Coconut Bay, who's since won twice and is now racing off a mark of 62. So Chic is rated 53 and was only beaten by 2 lengths on the last run. Looks overpriced. Probably a better all-weather horse than turf, however, is only making its 5th start on turf and could go well in this company.

His best run was under today's rider when second at Lingfield in May. Was rated 86 in Ireland and now off 57, and another 7 pounds off for the promising claimer.
