5:20 Goodwood Tips

Blue Courvoisier finished 18th out of 30 at Royal Ascot. Today's race isn't as tough as it was back then, and his ability to win in the closing stages should stand him in good stead.

A win and two seconds from four starts this year. He was clear of the rest three weeks ago when only beaten by a nose, the winner that day won a valuable handicap on Thursday at this track. Slightly higher in the weights for this handicap but he's now taking on older runners and he does receive a nice 8lb age allowance from 16 of his 17 rivals.

Spell Master can win the closing handicap of this great meeting. He ran a terrific race in the John Smith's Cup at York at a big price. He just struggled to get home that day, although that may have been down to the strength of the opposition as much as the trip. Nonetheless, the drop back by a furlong should help his cause. This isn't as strong a race as the York one, so he can go very close.

Finished 5th in this last year and arrives in good form having won on penultimate outing and finishing 3rd of 14 last time. Holds an each way chance

Charlie Johnston normally has his horses primed for the Goodwood Festival and Thunder Wonder showed signs of a return to form when dropped in class and 3rd in his latest race could hit the frame again from bottom of the handicap.

This horse has just the one win on the flat but has been relatively consistent and drops back into a class three race from a good mark. With Shoemark booked there's every chance of him running into the places at least.

This course-and-distance winner can go well here for an in-form yard and from a mark he has run well from before.

Alcaraz ended last campaign with back-to-back 1m wins. Needed his reappearance run and should be much fitter for that here. Could figure at massive odds.

Rock Of Cashel was well beaten at Ascot last time but I'm not sure the trip was a suitable one and this longer trip should suit better. A well bred former O'Brien inmate who never made the grade for the Coolmore team. Given his price he looks worth a little each way, with Spencer on board again, expect him to be ridden cold and come with a late run.
