There are some exceptionally tough looking handicaps on this Newcastle card, so winner finding ain't going to be easy. Bobby Bennu is my fancy in the first race. He has some very smart form from 2025, and started off at Chester last month. He was drawn wide that day, and appeared to be doing his best work in the closing stages. He wasn't beaten that far in the end, and he should have come forward for that run.

Delinquent can take advantage of the three-year-old allowance to win this open handicap at a nice price. He looks progressive, and his form looks pretty strong. He was fifth in the Spring Bowl at Carlisle on his last run. It's worth looking at what those ahead of him there have done since. They all raced at Royal Ascot. One wasn't beaten far, while the others all raced on the wrong side of the track. I still have faith that the form of the Carlisle race will work out well, hopefully starting with this race.

I think we've seen stronger Chipchase Stakes in previous years. However, this one looks very competitive. Wiltshire won the sprint on All-Weather Finals Day, confirming his liking for this track. He didn't show anything at Newbury last time, but I suspect this has been the target for him since his last appearance at the track.

This looks a virtually impossible race to fathom, so I will take a risk on one of the bigger-priced runners. Boston Dan hasn't shown a great deal so far this season; however, there are excuses for his last two runs. One was in a Listed race that was probably too hot for him, and the other had him drawn poorly, leading to no sort of run. He has a much more favourable draw here, and his stable have been going well recently.

Shrimp Shady was a decisive winner of the Chester Plate at their May meeting and can defy the five-pound rise he received for that. He had two smart Irish handicappers behind him that day, giving the form a very strong look. Rob Hornby is a very underrated jockey who is tactically aware and should have his mount in all the right spots in this marathon.

Rosenpur has a special affinity for Chester and won a nice six-furlong handicap at the big May meeting. He was far from disgraced here last time, despite a high draw and not being able to get to the front. He needs a bit of luck this time to get out smartly from stall 7, but if he does, he may well be able to lead all the way.

Circus Of Rome seems a ridiculously short price in the Northumberland Plate given his two efforts so far this season. However, those runs were at trips way below his optimum, and should only be thought of as races to get him cherry ripe for this assignment. He won a Racing League race back in August here, and there was no doubting the pleasure on the trainer's face that night. Richard Hughes was at the Ebor meeting that week, but made the additional journey on the Thursday evening to watch his charge with with ease. I'm sure the plan for this was started at that point, and hopefully it will come to fruition big style.

There are a few course specialists in this very good six-furlong handicap, and it's sure to be a belter of a race. Annaf was just touched off in the Chipchase on this card last year, and he races off a six-pound lower mark here. It's true that he hasn't been in great form so far this season, which has coincided with the yard's quiet spell. However, they have been back amongst the winners recently, and Annaf can bounce back to his best today.

There won't be many poorer races at York all year as this one. Most of the jockeys have little experience, and some of the runners are difficult to win with. No Knee Never is no superstar but has been good enough to win four times since he arrived from Ireland. His jockey, Henry Callan, is one of the more able riders in the race, and has won on the selection previously. No Knee Never has only ever won on the all weather, but that may change here.
