This is a fine card at Newmarket ahead of Guineas weekend, and there is every chance that the Appleby/Buick combo can make hay. Alpine Trail didn't race at two, but has won both his starts at three in very taking fashion. This is obviously a step up in class; however, he may well be up to it, against a field that all have something to prove at this level.

This will be a race that will be well worth watching very closely as it's sure to produce several winners throughout the season. Obviously, it's a bit of a guessing game about which one will be most ready on the day. However, I trust Charlie Appleby to have Spectacular View forward enough to play a big part.

Waleefy looks a short enough price on his seasonal debut, although he looks the classiest horse in the race. Interestingly William Haggas drops him back in trip after ending the previous season racing over seven furlongs. It's quite possible that he is sharper now that he's maturing, and the trainer makes few mistakes, and is bang in form.

Silver Knott could well complete a successful day for William Buick by taking the Jockey Club Stakes. He's top rated narrowly ahead of Ambiente Friendly, however he looks by far the safest option given the recent form of the James Owen horse.
