Tropical Retreat won over course and distance last time. Despite a rise in her mark, she is still two pounds out of the handicap. However, the three-year-old filly could run well near the far rail from stall 2, with her apprentice jockey taking off seven pounds.

Blingy's Sister won well first time out at Chepstow and was closing on the winner late on at Chester last time without appearing to cope that well with the course at Chester. She should be seen to better effect back on a straight course like the Curragh, and Hugh Palmer sends her across to Ireland for a crack at this big prize.

Defence Minister has yet to win this year, but he has been running in some hot contests. He was 2nd of 9 at Sandown and 4th of 20 at Goodwood, not beaten far in his last two races.

This looks to be a match between Composing and the unbeaten Venetian Sun. But Composing has probably shown the greater improvement over the season with each race. Her last two wins in a Group 3 at Leopardstown and her latest in a Group 2 over course and distance have shown her to be an exceptional filly.

Commanche Falls is now an eight-year-old and has a poor record at Doncaster, but he has shown a resurgence of form as his mark has fallen back below 100. He often starts slowly in his races and makes late progress. He only failed by a head last time at York when 2nd of 20 over 6f, and the extra half furlong here could be to his advantage, up one pound to a mark of 99.

Asfoora may not be at her best on rain-softened going, but the same applies to some of her rivals. She is drawn with Adrian Murray's pair on the far side of the course, so there will be plenty of pace on that side. She could hold on to the lead to the finish if she does not go off too fast.

Former Marcus Tregoning inmate Moonjid is still a maiden but came close to winning on his first run for Michael Appleby when collared late on at Carlisle and beaten a head. In this race for ex-jockeys, Adam Kirby could ride him to his first win.

Gstaad lost his first race at Deauville last time over 6f in a Group 1 when appearing to get going too late and came up a short head down on Venetian Sun at the line. He looked as though 7f should suit him better if challenging from behind, but he won his first two races well over 6f.

Queen Of Mougins was 3rd in this race last year when trained by Ralph Beckett. Now trained in Ireland by Adrian Murray, she showed her well-being by winning a 6f handicap at the Curragh in August on her first run of the season.

Illinois is the most assured at this distance amongst the favourites, having last year won the Group 2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot. He was 2nd, beaten in a photo finish in the St Leger by Jan Brueghel, and then won the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay at Longchamp. This year, he has been consistent, winning the Ormonde Stakes from Al Qareem at Chester, giving weight, and then 2nd to Trawlerman in the Ascot Gold Cup and 2nd to Scandinavia in the Goodwood Cup.

Jer Batt is a better sprinter with cut in the going, and sufficient rain has fallen at Doncaster to make him competitive in this 5f handicap. He has not won since August 2024, but his mark has been gradually falling back despite several placed efforts to 88, only a pound above his last winning mark.

Barnavara disappointed last time when only 3rd to Red Letter here, giving her three pounds. But she had previously beaten Red Letter over a mile at Navan and could do better if not forced to make the running.

Bonnies Boy did not cope well with Chester in his latest race, but back on a straight course with Warren Fentimen taking off his five-pound allowance, he should go close again in this 5f handicap.

Crown Of Oaks is being sent to Ireland for a big handicap prize before the handicapper assesses his new mark based on how easily he won at Ascot last weekend. With the going being rain-softened, it could be a repeat performance even with a seven-pound penalty.
